sounds like power wire is fine. check ur remote wire, definately make sure your ground is secure.

u have a kill switch on ur remote? yes check each section the same, even check that switch, switches ,fuses grounds are all weak links, process of elimination

your wires are prolly all fine, check that switch, get another fuse, recheck your grounds, then see what happens. did u check the voltage from the remote wire, maybe the hu is failing.

ill check the switch.. but im pretty sure its good..
ill pick up a new fuse on my way home. and let you know..

no i didnt check the voltage from the remote wire... how should i do that? just flip the switch put the red lead on the remote wire and find a ground? how many volts should it read?
also, i dont think its the hu because its the stock hu and it shares a connection with the rear speaker (which works fine)

im not sure what u mean. could u break that down that would make sense if i am seeing it properly, the factory remote is 5volts, amp needs 12 at the remote, the radio power wire should be 12.

Im confused now.

JJDH first of all I was trying to check his power wire with respect to ground. not the continuity of his power wire. You do not have to do a loop if you are just checking it with respect to ground. If the power wire is not shorted...then it is a very good chance that the continuity is good.

second of all I have no idea what you are talking about it being 5 volts on the remote wire...The amp requires a 12v turn on circuit..... He should be tapped into a 12v source for his remote wire. The RCA's in some HU's have a 5 volt out... maybe you were thinking of that ???

To do a true impedence test you need to set the meter on the lowest impedence reading. 2k is way too high.

a factory sub runs off 5 volts. wouldnt the remote from a factory hu remote only put out 5 volts? also checking the power wire with respect to ground, what are u accomplishing with that? if it is unhooked from battery. always willing to learn, could u be more specific?

That may be the case, but an aftermarket amplifier requires a 12v turn on circuit not a 5v.

It has to be unhooked from the battery. Power cannot be applied when you are checking the line for a short. I was checking to see if the power wire was maybe pinched or shorted somewhere. Unhooking everything and checking to see if the power wire is shorted would tell you if the power wire was accidently pinched or crimped somewhere.....think about it if it was accidently rubbed through the jacket of the cable and touching a ground then the cable would have a ground on it. that is why you set it to test for a short and check it.
