meter is fine. mine set to ohms, when not touched reads ol or infinity, when i touch em it says0.1 or a little resistance, if ur checking your power wire for a short, do how i explained above, set meter to continuity, is this meter digital, if so it has a ringer on it, a good wire will ring, a shorted wont, little less difficult way

yes it is digital.. its a actron cp7672
which setting would be continuity, i know its just a low resistance test, but i dont remember which it is. thanks! also can you clarify what exactly it is your asking me to do with the wires?

also open line or [ol] means alot of resistance, touching leads together says.. .01 or zero, means low resistance thats y urs says zero

hmmm no red dot, or waves...

and if i read your post correctly, you want me to get some extra wire, and make a circle with the power wire. is that correct?

yes the only way, [that i have ever done or heard of ] is u have to have a complete path through your wire to meter to check continuity or resistance, or to check for a short is to place one lead on one end, and other lead on other end, to see if u have a short, if this is what you are trying to accomplish, this would be the only way. so without taking out ur power wire from truck, get another piece of wire,, tie to end under hood, after fuse, then put meter leads on each opposite end of wire, a short will have a very high number or OL. a nice path will say zero,or .1,,.2.. .3........something low, or a low resistance, a short causes alot of resistance, higgggggghhhhhhhhhhh number.

also u can try it on a short line first to get to know how your meter acts. not all multimeters are created equal

I went on Google and types in your amp mfr name, model number and the words "owners manual".

It was the second link that came up.

no grounding. in the cab u will have 2 wire ends, one big horseshoe. one lead goes on one end. red lead on other end, basically u are applying the meters voltage to the line, just re-read the posts
