2012 FX4 - Service Advancetrac

My truck just passed 60k last week (60,866.7 as of today), and while backing out of a parking spot, I got a 'Service Advancetrac' dialog box on the display. I see a few other posts on the internet on this, but not a lot of definitive answers.

Plus, now my turn signals stopped working at the same time. They will work if I hold them, but when I release the switch they stop.

I already have an oil change scheduled for Friday, I added this to their list.

I always seem to luck out and have something happen a few hundred miles out of warranty. Hopefully its not too $$$$. Any thoughts / suggestions on this?

Thanks for posting the fix. Never heard of that one.

My service advancetrac light came back on this morning, scheduled to go back again on this coming Friday...

I also didn't mention that when I picked up the truck the first time, the check engine light came on immediately. Root cause was determined to be the O2 sensor wire harness was 'chafing' against something under the truck, and the wires were rubbed through the insulation.

A little frustrated at this point, obviously.

I had the same problem with my old pickup which was a 2011. I would normally just turn it off and reset the computer and it would not pop up for a couple weeks. Im sure it was the exact same problem but I traded that pickup off anyhow, at least it wasnt super expensive to fix.

Next update: The service tech reported the following codes:

U0428
C1B00

Diagnosis is that they incorrectly identified the SCCM as the issue last time, and the steering rack requires replacement based on the above codes.

They will credit me $332.03 for the previous work, but the total for parts and labor to replace the rack, and do an alignment is $1,475.91.

Ouch.

The other truck forum has a long thread on this issue, but since I'm out of warranty (I went past 60,000 miles 3 days before the light came on), I'm outta luck. I'm hoping a TSB or something will come out so I can get some retroactive assistance. I can't afford to be replacing the rack every 60,000 miles....

same issue

I had the same problem with my 2011 FX4 and the dealer re-flashed/updated the software and within days the problem re-surfaced. I returned the truck to the dealership and the following day was told that the steering rack needed to be replaced, I was out of warranty, and they quoted me just over $2k for the repair. Needless to say, I picked up my truck and was livid... a $45k truck and this is the 2nd major issue in less than 4 months (first was sunroof tracks broke and the whole unit had to be replaced at $1600). I did some research on this issue and found it to be quite prevalent so I contacted Ford directly and voiced my concern with the issue and the cost to replace on a 3 yo truck. Ford agreed to cover all costs minus $500 to complete the repair. This is a known issue with the 2011 and newer trucks with the EPAS steering system, do not hesitate to contact Ford and ask for their help in completing the repair. This does two things, it eases the financial burden on you and makes Ford painfully aware of how big this issue is with their trucks. I love my truck but with each passing day, and repair, I am losing faith in the brand.

Hey ajsturtz,

Shoot me a PM with your name, VIN, mileage, dealer, and best daytime phone number; I'll see how I can best assist.

I have been battling similar issues with my 2011 F-150 for over a year now, off and on. The Advancetrac Service light keeps coming on after every visit to the dealer, but they keep trying to fix it without charge so far. Additionally, my trailer lights almost never work. Dealer replaced a fuse and it worked for a short time, then no more trailer lights once again. While these two problems may not be related, they do have one thing in common, and that is they cannot be solved. Picked the truck up yesterday after dealer serviced the advancetrac and supposedly fixed the trailer light connection/fuse. However, yesterday afternoon the Service Advencetrac warning light came on again and my trailer lights don't work. Appointment scheduled for tomorrow to see if they can fix it again, but my confidence level is waning.

One fact worth noting is that trailer lights work perfectly with my 1989 GMC, so there is no problem with the trailer wiring or lights.

Has anyone else has any problems with your trailer lights, and was it connected to the Advancetrac Service Needed light?

Any advice or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum, Clark1818! I'm Crystal, the current Ford rep here. Have you been to your dealership yet for diagnosis? How many miles are on your truck? I'll see what I can do to help.

AdvanceTrac problem

I am having similar problems. Advancetrac came on while hunting in September-turn signals also quit. It ended up going away until this evening pulling out if a parking spot it went on and turn signals failed again. Sounds like a very common issue. I have a 2011 F150 Lariat with 48k miles. Is this covered under power train warranty?

Welcome to the forum, Colburgh. Your dealership will be in the best position to make a warranty determination. Let me know when you've had your truck diagnosed and I'll be able to look into options to assist.

Service AdvanceTrak

Hi - I just purchased a 2014 F150 FX2 and this keep coming on every-time I start the truck. Do I have cause for concern or is this a quick fix. The truck only has 350 miles.
