Hey Crystal:

Thanks for the reply. I did drop of the truck today. This is the message I put in the online appointment request: Service Advance TRAC light comes on frequently, turn signals do not operate. I have researched this problem on the F150 support forum and it appears to be a common occurence. Resetting codes deos not work and several members report the entire steering column has to be replaced. I have a platinum extended warranty and do not want to pay $100 each time the problem has to be diagnosed.

You're quite welcome, stildoggy. Come back and tell us what you hear from the dealership; if you need assistance after receiving a diagnosis, just give me a shout.

Crystal

I've learned to live with it. If I back up in a parking lot full hard lock turning, it will usually come on when I turn the opposite direction to pull forward. So I don't do a full lock turn, and it doesn't have the error. Going on 90k miles on my 2012...

Oh, and when I'm hauling customers (I'm in sales, and work with engineers from John Deere, Caterpillar, etc...) and it goes off, I just tell them its a Ford issue, and they should avoid buying any F150's until they figure out the problem and fix it... =) I'm sure I've already told over 100 potential customers my story! Social marketing at its finest! I even show them the $1400 estimate from my dealership for emphasis.

SCREW was in the shop for the better part of today. Here is what the invoice said: CAUSE 12118A REPROGRAMMED PER TSB FC: H19 42, PART#: 2C219, AUTH CODE: 009590

FREE QCM INSPECTION, 99P FREE QCM INSPECTION

My total cost was $29.68

So far no message but we will see. Confidence is not high based on pervious posts.

Metropolitan Ford in Eden Prairie, MN - tried a software update on the truck and thought that was the fix... $230.... The next day I had it kick off the AdvanceTrac warning again.... I brought it back to the dealer and reproduced the error message for the service crew... Crew contacted Ford engineers on the issue in the mother city of Detroit.... Since it only happened when I turned sharp to park in a stall or pull a U-turn, and that the signal would not work on its own and would have to signal manually... It was decided that the Steering Angle Sensor - Body Control Module was the problem... They changed out that part... Its been a few weeks and many miles later - no more problem... Cost - $1,400.00 (they credited me the $200 for the software update).... unfortunately no warranty coverage.... Issue happened around 45,000 miles... no extended warranty... #bummer

I had it in and it was about 1400 bucks to fix an issue in the steering column angle sensor... it wasn't covered under warranty as the truck had 45000 miles on it... they tried a software update and it didn't work, so they tried the angle sensor and fixed it... I do not believe that this is a big enough issue for Ford to recall... Any thoughts? Any idea if there will be a recall?? There area many out there that have had the same issue.... and it sucks!

Recalls are generally only for safety issues.

Well looks like Ford still wants it's customers to pay for their problems. Same "service advance system trac" warning and light on my 2012 f150 fx4 @ 55k. Took it in to the dealership and they say it's a software update issuse. $170 bucks to update their software that's causing the issue. Seems pretty common on here so you would think Ford would own up to its problems. Guess I will remember this when I'm looking for a new car for the wife this fall. Smh

Add me to the list

Truck has 47K miles. Service AdvanceTrac light and loss of turn signals like everyone else. No warranty coverage. There have been two Fords in my driveway for many years but that will change after this experience...

Known issue?

My 2012 F-150 STX just started with the service advancetrac/turn signal issue. It's intermittent. The truck only has 25k miles on it. I think the warranty just ran out, of course.

Hi iowaSSfan,

Did your dealer update the software or are you holding off on repair for now? Let me know and I'll research options to help.

Hi folks,

Have you been to your dealerships for diagnosis yet? Once they've checked things out, I'll be able to escalate this to your regional customer service managers. Keep me in the loop.

Hi Crystal,
I can only speak for myself but, yes, I have been to the dealership. Initially they cleared a few codes and "reset" the ABS module but that did not resolve this issue. The "Service AdvanceTrac" light comes on when the wheel is turned all the way to the lock position. Once the light is on the turn signals will not work. The new diagnosis is bad steering gear/rack which is not under warranty. This is a $1,700 repair. The part number is EL3Z-3504-BE (STE121). It appears 2011 is the first year they used this steering gear. I was told a sensor on the rack is being pulled out of position when the wheels are turned all of the way (design/engineering?).
Thanks for passing the information along Crystal. We appreciate it.

Sure thing, jsamis80! I just sent you a PM with your case escalation info. If there's anything else I can do to help, you know how to find me.
