Sungear and sungear shell. These are quite problematic on F150s. Typically, these are stripped when there is no reverse on the truck (from what I've read).

Another Youtube picture. This is what normal wear and tear looks like. As you can see from previous pictures, the sungear shell on my transmission is in perfect condition.

Everything apart

All done. All parts have been swapped out up to this point. Reassembly in reverse. Transmission pump reinstalled.

Will be spending all day tomorrow for remove and replacement of my current transmission.

More updates to follow.

Thank you. It was a lot of work. July 20th or 21st will be my 2 month anniversary of owning the truck.

If the trans lost reverse... most likely the reverse band is broken. Its common on the F-150s

Rebuilt another transmission that I purchased used. Came from an '07 F150 Lariat (4x4) with only 120,000 km

Transmission is now inside. There was a component from the front pump of the transmission that was installed backwards which prevented the transmission from fitting in. All resolved now. Shifts good in all gears. Reverse seems a little tight but maybe it needs to be broken in. Pictures below

Had to remove this fan in order to manually turn the crankshaft.

Pictures of the engine bay with the fan removed

Picture of the oil filter (thought it was interesting). Oil change done less than 500 km ago.

Missing a few pictures as hands were extremely dirty/greasy and wanted to get the transmission removed ASAP (about 4-5 hours in now).

Transmission jack mounted

Transmission out (Left = rebuilt Right = original)

Build date sticker of the original transmission (July 27, 2004)

Torque converter from the original transmission.

Original transmission on the workbench (pan and plate removed)

Removed the connector (as my rebuilt one was broken) and replaced it on the rebuilt one.

Haven't stripped down the original transmission but as you can see in the pictures, first signs of damage are apparent.

Broken snap ring
