'07 lost power

Was driving down the road yesterday doing about 35 when the engine suddenly lost power & stalled. The engine will not start & when I ty to the starter will not disengage unless I turn the key off. When I release the key the starter still wants to turn the engine over. Engine is the 4.6 with 79,000 mi. on it & ran perfectly up until yesterday with no cel or any other signs that something was wrong. Any ideas? Thanx.

Might be a long shot here, but you might want to check the "Fuel Driver Control Module" located on the crossmember above the spare tire. When these things go south they can cause some strange symptoms.

Sam, you nailed it. Cost me $300 at the dealership, part & labor. I was fortunate as they had the part in stock.

Yeah, what kills them is so simple to fix too!

Should have spaced it off the frame and protected it to begin with.

I know I caught mine early back in January after reading a thread here that got me curious. Had mine failed on the 1000 mile round trip I had just finished over holidays .... wrecker plus fix plus likely motel expense .... OUCH!

While mine had started to corrode, I caught it early enough to save it .... and found squirrel damaged wire in the harness to it at the plug, almost chewed through.

Thousands out there going up and down the road and drivers have NO idea of what a ticking time bomb they have sitting on that frame crossmember?

There are several threads on the subject, "Fuel Pump Driver Module" or "FPDM" ..... it's what controls the fuel pump and communicates with the PCM. It's housed in an aluminum case and bolted to the frame in a "not flat" spot over behind the left rear wheel where it get's slush, snow, salt spray as well as rain spray from the left rear tire .... and it corrodes the whole housing back wall that sets against the frame.

Fix is, if you catch it in time, remove, clean, paint or protect, and reinstall spacing it away from the frame so no corrosion of aluminum at contact points with frame.

Here's a link to the thread that first got my attention back in New Years this year.

https://www.f150online.com/forums/ar...placement.html

Here's the thread I started the day I fixed mine .... actually 12-31-10 (I was thinking it was January as we spent Christmas in Ga?)

https://www.f150online.com/forums/20...dged-more.html

A search will show many more, and many had to be towed. Owners didn't even know such a thing existed or was in such a bad spot. Doubt it's much problem in Pheonix or El Paso .... but in wetter or colder climates ...

The "danger" is to your wallet and convenience .....

Post Lost power while driving due to FPDM

Hey everyone, thank God for online information, I experience the same problem first incident I was home parked my F-150 went out to start it and would not start only seemed as if it wanted to turnover but couldnt. Had it towed to Ford dealer only to findout they checked everything and had to consult Ford Motor Specialist to resolve the issue; after about 2 weeks I recieved my truck back working fine. 2nd time around was no fun, I was entering the highway, without any warning the truck lost power and shut down in the middle of morning rush hour traffic. Had someone push my truck out of the roadway, and there it sat. Had it again towed to a different/closer ford dealer for repairs on the 15th of this month, 7/15/11 I informed the mechanic of my past experience and felt it was the same issue. Well as of date 7/25/11 I dont have my truck back, I was told it was the FPDM after it was installed the truck still didnt start, repaired a cable that runs from the starter to rear where the FPDM is located, was called and told my truck was ready on Saturday, went to p/u it wouldnt start. Well, I love my ford and Loveee my truck, but it's time to go directly to the top. I contacted FM corporate customer service, spoke with Selena (very nice) I explained everything to her and also told her about the blogs I had read on others having the same problem. I asked if this should be a recall issue and she explained to me how they have inside studies based on reports ect. Well I'm asking everyone with this problem to please call FM CCS and report your issue, this way it will be on record and they can at least consider this for recall before someone gets killed. there was no warning before my truck shut completly down and as I stated my truck was mid-way directly in rush hour morning traffic. 1-800-392-3673 opt. 1-5-1-2-1 (this could actually save one of our lives) Just recvd. a call from the dealer, they attemped to start it, stalled once and started again, will keep for further observations.... Please call if nothing else, please call FMCCS

Thanks
