What would really suck is if at a red light you got bumped from behind and pushed into the car in front!

I give you props for trying it out. I really think you could come up with a way to get them all in the bad though.

This is why I didn't post about my front receiver, I knew everyone would beat you up.

My problem was taking a vacation with both my pop-up and my boat.
The pop-up is low enough when closed for visability so I hitch that to the front and hitch the boat to the rear.

You got to be one hell of a driver to handle it but, hey that's me.

With only four or five people riding, we can work together and load, or unload, all the 4 or 5 bikes in less than a minute.
With that many people biking, why do you have to carry them all? Do you have 10 people in your family and all go biking at once? Or do you have a club and you are the only person that could transport all of the bikes? Yeah 10 bikes on one truck is a bit much dude, have the other people carry their own crap.

Real gangsters tow their boat in front of them and their pop up in the back. Try that out for size!!

The bed is for gear. This was a four day trip with four people, and all the luggage, helmets, water, cooler, tools, snacks, biking gear, shopping purchases (Red Wing pottery) were stored and locked in the bed.

Yes, the front wheels are held straight with a velcro strap, but he rear wheels spun the whole trip.

I actually thought of that on way there, and we discussed it. Would ruin the whole trip for sure.

It comes down to reducing the number of vehicles needed to make the trip. It's crazy when you think about it. We drove 350 miles to bike 100 miles. Next trip, each couple will drive their own RX330 with our own bikes on the back rack. With bikes on the back, the gas mileage on my RX330 drops under 20mpg.

Also, once a year the whole family will bike from Elroy to Sparta. We all meet, and carry our won bikes to Elroy, then we have an extra person drive my truck to Sparta and wait for us. The limitation is in finding people who are willing to make the trip simply to drive a vehicle and wait for us at the end of the trail.

on a plus side, it does give you a good idea of exactly where your front is for when you pull into places.

Let's Stay on Topic

All right everyone.

I've just gone through this thread and deleted posts that seemed to be turning it into a "political" diatribe. We're all free to say we either like the mod or not, and why, but let's stay away from using derogatory terms that have no purpose except to get people all worked up.

That may be true, but when your 22' long you no longer fit in the standard parking places and have to look for two open places end to end so you can take both. Parking was always a problem, much like pulling a trailer. We also noticed that 99% of men who drove a truck or SUV checked out the front bike rack as they drove by.

well, it looks neat. and I am sure you put a lot of effort into it.
Thats a good job on it, but not what i would have done.

My primary worry would be bugs/dirt and rocks.

I figure a smaller open mesh hauler or even a enclosed hauler would work fine.

Even that said, of you haul 10 bikes and 11 people go (1 extra to drive truck) you are going to at least take two cars/trucks, could you not fit the gear in the other car/tuck and haul all the bikes on the bed and behind the truck?

But anyway, that looks neat and I am sure it had a lot of work put into it, and props on trying it, I just personally do not thinks its piratical.

I would try and lower the rack down about 6" so the tires would be even with the valence, and you'd get alot more visibility out of it

1) The front bike on the front rack arrived full of bugs.
2) Both bikes on the front rack would say in the wind and took a little beating.
3) We may have a few paint chips from stones.
4) The bike rack was jumping up and down in the wind

I guess there is a reason you don't see bikes mounted on the front of vehicles.

how was your gas mileage effected with the loaded rack on the front?

Why not try and fab up something for the rear and be able to put em all back there?

Or Make something like a tonneau cover with rails to load the bike across the bed? They make something similar for loading quads. Then you could load the gear underneath all the bikes

Kind of like this http://www.monsterhauler.com/

I have not carried that many bikes yet, but that is how it would work. I woulc carry my two bikes to the trail, then two drivers would take my vehicle and another to the other end of the trail. My truck would only carry 10 bikes back to othe trail start where the group's vehicles are parked. You can pack a lot of people in a truck if you have to.
