To be honest. I like the concept of leaving the bed open for gear. But something about that setup looks dangerous to me....

Lets say that your bed is full of gear, and your pulling a camper trailer. I do believe that I would have fabricated that onto the *** end of my trailer rather than the front of my truck.

Why not take the front wheels off? I can't tell if those are quick release or not? My mountain bike does, and I assumed a lot of road bikes did as well.

You should be able to fit more than 2 bikes back there. I've fit 3 bikes in the back of the Expy.

That may work. I never tried it, because I would need to protect the forks, but now with a bedrug they're protected. The bikes would have to be different sizes for the handle bars to fit. Back when I put three bikes in the box of my SuperCrew I would face each bike a different direction to make the handle bars fit.

In practice it looks like this:

I was not pulled over at any time by any police I encountered. I did take one bike seat off so I could see better. As it turned out, there were a few problems which will result in not transporting our bikes this way again.

1) The front bike on the front rack arrived full of bugs.
2) Both bikes on the front rack would say in the wind and took a little beating.
3) We may have a few paint chips from stones.
4) The bike rack was jumping up and down in the wind

I guess there is a reason you don't see bikes mounted on the front of vehicles.

hey whatever works for you but all i have to say when i see people with trucks hauling bikes on racks front or back is why? im not flaming but you have a bed for a reason use it. but if uyou ride enough its a good idea. all my bikes go in the bed but i guess all my bikes also have motors! but thats a good idea to save space if u need it for gear!

Take the front wheels off and load the bikes parallel to the cab all the way back. I do this when mountain biking, and I could easily fit 12 bikes in the bed.

although the visibility would bother me, I personally don't think that rack looks all so horrible. I've seen mods posted on this site that are far more hideous. So props to doing something unique to support YOUR hobby, forget what others think. Just be sure to put bunjy cords through the wheels so they aren't spinning in the wind.

I commend you for your ingenuity, but have to give it a thumbs down. I used to carry my bikes on the roof rack and they would always get trashed with bugs and road grime. The final draw was destroying one of my bikes going under a ramp...now I carry them in my truck bed or the rear hitch. With those bikes in the front I'm afraid they would get pretty beat up from rocks, sand, and bugs.Good luck.
