Raising my truck for my son

I have a 2004 ford f150 4x4 just recently gave it to my 15 yr old son and he is wanting to raise it and put 35s on it any suggestions on suspension v/s body lifts I have raised some trucks in the past but dont have a clue about the new ones.

seeing your in alabama, id recommend a suspension lift cuz your kid is gonna use it.

you cant go wrong really with any of the different lift brands fabtech, pro comp, and bds are the more popular lifts of this site. i ran BDS on my 07 for a few years and had no issues.

and id recommend a really good aggressive mud terrain for him.

I would have given him a Ranger. Now he's going to tear up a nice F150 by taking it offroading.

^ that is a good possibility. It doesn't matter how well you know your boy, once they turn 16 they change!

You can start with a 2 or 2 1/2" leveling kit or some Bilstein 5100 leveling shock's that can be set at 2 inches of lift. I've had 33,34 and 35's on my truck and find the 34's work the best. No rubbing offroad and no trimming. Best of all decent fuel mileage and no need to re-gear. You can run 17 or 18" wheel's on this truck and find some reasonable priced tires. Later on you can go with a full suspension lift but these run close to 2 grand with shock's plus close to 500 to install. I'd stay away from the bodylift's on the 04-08's because they can be a PITA to install. By the way my grandson is already begging me for my truck!!

I would get a 2.5" AS and some 35's. That is what i would like to do. Just to contradict what some people are saying, i'm 16 and I treat my truck like its my little sister. Always wash and never take it off-road. Brent

Well firstly, thats a hell of a nice gift and a very nice first vehicle. If he realizes how lucky he is to have it I doubt he would tear it up off road, plus I would imagine a father giving his son a truck that he will make damn well sure the son will take care of it. I had a 2002 Trans Am when I was 16, the power scared me sometimes lol, once I got used to it I was thankful for what I had and learned how to really use it, safely.

I think he will get bored of the level really quick, if your gonna get bad economy with 35s you might as well have the suspension lifted 6"s more. Thats not a really big lift but its enough to clear ruts, some branches, and to look a bit better.

But seriously, you're pretty ****ing stupid if you don't think a 15 isn't going to tear up a lifted F150.

Here's my 2005 supercrew with a 2" Autospring leveling kit on the front and 305x65/18 (33.7 inch diameter) BF Goodrich All Terrains. Personally, I like this look the best (but I might be a bit biased). I've been told that depending on the wheels and tires you go with, you can squeeze 35s with just a leveling kit, but if you want to use the truck off road at all, a tire that large will rub. Mine don't get close to rubbing anywhere, and I actually like the stock Lariat alloys.
