Almost looks like they directly fit into the main lamp housing of the factory headlight in case anyone wants to investigate. May not even need cutting or anything, just alignment

Has anybody noticed how the 2005 navigator with HID look? They look like the f150 but the part that covers the tip of the bulb is different. They dont have a projector lens. I own the navigator and thats the only diff. i can see. this ebay ad shows it good

Ok let me chime in here lol.

I've always was the one that wanted HID's when they first came out. However I didn't really look into the whole difference between true HID and simulated HID.

So in all my cars i would run out and put in HID bulbs and tell everyone Hey i got HIDs now- its bright as hell. Meanwhile i was blinding everyone on the road and not getting a good light pattern. You still will have a bright light but its not going in the proper beam where it should.

It wasnt until i put true projectors in my bike that i realized what a difference projectors make to display the correct light beam. I always thought the other way was good enough. After the projectors were installed the light output (beam) was 10x better.

To properly get HID's in your vehicle you really should put in TRUE projectors that displays the correct beam for HIDs to project on. There made out of glass and have a different convex then the plastic lens or reflector lens. Dont be fooled by the ebay imitation projectors. You want the ones that are out of a acura or lexus and so forth.

You really dont want to blind everyone on the road and with our trucks high as they are to begin with- you will be right at eye level and it can get annoyning real fast. Save yourself the headache and just get the proper projectors to do the job right the first time. Im all about going the cheap way or discount way but not at someone else's cost (could end up for someone in a accident for being blinded)

now that I think of it...im surprised a company hasn't made a plug and play projector adaptor for the factory headlight. I would imagine retrofit will probably sell more if they're kits were made plug and play with minor installation instead of all this chopping and guessing. I know i'd pay $400 for that

I agree with everything you mentioned. I want the best lighting possible, but not at someone else's expense. That's why I get so adamant over people going through the extra time/expense to at least get real projectors, and ideally, retrofit true HID units.

Thank you...yeah i have the 55w HIDs in them so they are bright but there true HID so the cut off is below the windows and side mirrors. So i dont blind anyone in that way- but if your dumb enough like some of my buddies are and look directly into them- expect to be blinded lol. Plus i have hi and low in both headlights so needless to say- i usually lead the pack

Yeah i spent around 500 for my setup on the bike. But the parts were straight from the factory (not aftermarket) where the projectors are made so i paid a little extra.

Yeah i used to be that way until i really experience true HID light patterns. You get all excited going from halogen to HID (plus for 60 bucks its cheap) and your blown away by the brightness of it- you dont think about getting the true projectors for it cuz you think its better than what you had why spend more money. Thats the tough concept about it. I appreciate the one's that go the extra mile and do the retrofit the true HID way and give them alot of support because i know the cost and time that can go into it.

So back on subject lol- whos got the cheapest solution for the best looking retrofit TRUE hid projectors lol

Projectors will always be brighter than reflectors, even if you install 4000k HID lamps in a stock housing. The thing with projectors is they focus the beam from a much smaller point than a reflector housing does. Think of the difference between a laser pointer and a regular flashlight. Also, my girlfriend has 8000k HIDs in the stock headlamps of her 08 Sport Trac, and they're not as blinding as the 10000k HIDs in my true projectors (for anyone who doesn't know, the further away from 4300k you get up or down, the less bright your light actually is). Something can only blind you if it's right in your eyes, that's when you just lower the beam. Every stock headlamp housing today can be lowered, or those of us who level or lift our rides would be screwed.

Also, for anyone looking into HIDs, be careful what you buy. HID stands for "High Intensity Discharge", in which high voltage is passed through a small globe filled with xenon and other gases for illumination. These require a transformer to "transform" the 12V coming from your car to a proper, more usable voltage for the system. Also, HIDs don't have a filament in the globe. The electricity ignites the gas just like in a flourescent tube light. In light of this, be careful because there are many cheap immitations. Some people will advertise an HID bulb that is a simple light bulb coated with a blue, purple, yellow, or some color tint on the bulb. Those are NOT true HIDs. They may emit the same color, but they are not anywhere near as bright or brilliant as a xenon-filled bulb.

I know those arnt real projectors, I've seen them up close at the shop. those are the best looking ones so far I like, They're getting retrofitted with FX-R projectors. there the ones the HIDs will go in. If you look in a previous post of mine I listed everything you need to do a retrofit and thats what I am doing. I dont want to type it all in again even though I can do a cut/paste. Post 20 has more of what I just said.

Why wouldn't you just retro the stock housings then? It seems like a waste of money to buy aftermarket housings just to chop them up and put in a retro HID kit.
