OK, now that I'm thinking amongs myself lol I think I will have to have the remaining injectors replaced.

Here's my reasoning behind this decision. My truck is the family trip vehicle. We load her up with all the goods and go to the Texas coast every summer. The last thing I need is to have my truck engine seize up while on the I35 in the middle of nowhere.

I've also decided to call Ford customer service Monday to inquire with them about any possible deal I can get on 7 new injectors, since I am doing them a favor by replacing them at my own cost. The least they can do is cut me slack on the cost.

Does anyone know if a stuck injector will for sure throw a CEL code? I have had 2 instances in the last week where my 2005 5.4 was hard to start and the oil has a gas odor to it. I've got ~40k on the engine as of now, I am assuming I am covered under the extended injector warranty even though I did not get the letter, build date was 5/05.

I think even though I am not seeing the CEL, I am going to go ahead and take the truck in to the dealer for a look.

Thanks

I never threw a CEL, I had to pull the code with my Edge programmer. I suggest going to Autozone or the like and have them run a free diagnostic check for you.

Sorry to hear about this Stealth, but at least the tech was driving when it hydroed. I think you have a great idea about replacing the remaining injectors, I would rather be safe than sorry. Hopefully everything turns out good.

Yeah, he (service manager) didn't even get it started. He was intending to pull it in the shop. He said it felt like it cranked about two teeth on the flywheel and locked up. I suppose the fuel pressure seeped out of the stuck open injector over night, filling the combustion chamber.

It really sucks talking about these things when it's your own truck.

Sorry to read these problems Stealth. The smart thing for them to do would have been to pull the plug on that cylinder to give the pressure somewhere to go. Since they know what can happen an even better idea would have been to push the truck into the shop.

With my luck recently the plug would have broken off.

I hear ya. I just think it was dumb to try starting it when they know what can happen when the injector sticks open like that.

That does seem dumb that they tried to drive it in knowing the issue with the injector.

Not sure it matters that much to them. They needed to move it and if it causes more damage, Ford is already on the hook to fix it.

So you just randomly did a check with your edge to see if you had any codes and this popped up? Or was there some symptoms to make you decide you better do some investigating?
