Edge install...and alittle insight..
You are looking at this all wrong...What external factors does Bill Cohron not have to deal with that the 500 engine designers do not...1) emissions, 2) the average joe complaining about firm shifts 3) the million's of people who own f-150's who do not want to get the most driveability out of them(he deals with the .000001% of them that do)
No, that is not what I meant, sorry. What I meant was just what I wrote, "they do not have to be looking for it" the new software for the PCM for Ford, actually picks up any "non pre-programmed codex in the stream". I wish an actual Ford tech would chime in here and gives us some insight.
scare tactics is all I have to say, your dealer sounds like a bunch of ******
I'm tired of trying to tell you anything. I never said he knew anything that others didn't know. In fact there are probably more than 500 aftermarket tuners. The Ford tuners probably know what he knows, but intentionally detuned the engines. He knows a lot about these thrucks and tuning as does Troyer and Justin. All I have said is that Ford intentionally left a lot on the table to suit the masses and these guys know how to improve it for those of us that want it improved. It's that simple. I have had 3 stock tunes, an Edge with 3 canned tunes and 2 of Bill Cohron's tunes. I can tell you what I have experienced and that is all. My truck has 83,000 miles on it, I changed the plugs at 65,000 with none breaking. Oh, that's a thought. If Ford engineers are so perfect why did the design such a faulty plug? Anyway, my truck runs better than it did new and I am totally happy with the PHP tune.

YA THINK! I know the service manager, actually pulled him over once and cut him a break! Even he says it out of his hands. Something in the new software gives a redline to them. Also, all records get recorded on the server and sent to Ford, makes it easier for payment with a closed system like that. Think about it, the company actually gets to see the codes the dealer charges for! Could save them millions/yr! Yup, big brother time at the dealers.
I bet that they could claim a K&N filter would cause a premature engine failure. BTW, the drop in does nothing but save on filter costs, does next to nothing for mpg or power.

sm|175, that will require a custom tune.
I have to agree with bjp207, the dealer shop makes the most money from warranty repairs. They will approve any repair they know Ford Corporate won't deny. Since there is no reason to even mention the engine programming on a ball joint or emblems or seat motors, they would just do the work and apply for reimbursement.

I ran one tank through mine on level 1 and I absolutely beat on it, almost every time I accellerated fast and I improved 1mpg on my 4.6, once it gets moving and now actually holds overdrive on little slopes...so much less wasted fuel
and about the k&n, completely agree with bluejay...no performance or mpg increase, just saves me 20 bones every 6k miles for a new air filter

Yeah, thats why I replaced it last time. Should have taken it out when I turned the lease in. I have the 5.4. Not looking to make it look like my old F150s when i was younger, just wanting a little more mpg and towing power. And a nice rumble!
Back before I started adding weight to my truck, and prior to 10%ethanol, I got right at 17 around the Metroplex and 19.2 or so on the higway(75 to 85mph). I now get just over 15 around town and 18 on the highway.
