Eddie
2005, 5.4 4x2 with 3.55s. My stock tune was junk. Lots of hesitation on acceleration. The dealer reflashed it twice and eliminated the hesitation, but still really sluggish and VERY mushy shifts. The Edge canned tunes fixed all that, but left a lot to be desired in the downshifting. PHP, fixed that plus, the 87 Performance tune is as strong as the Level 3 in the Edge, so I now have the performance I wanted and don't pay for premium fuel. I don't race it, not looking for the max performance at all, just want it responsive and able to go when i need it to.

No, that's not why I asked at all. You were wrong with that assumption. I asked because I test drove a 4.6L and a 5.4L before buying and I could see how the 4.6L leaves alot to be desired, ESPECIALLY in the hill country like Bluejay was referring.

The 2004s and 2005s were really bad with a hesitation when you stomped it to pass. It was like an eternity if you were in traffic and needed to move. I took it in and told them it was going to get me killed, and gave them the TSB number. They reflashed it and it helped. Then later, there was another TSB and they offered to reflash again when I was in for an oil change. Then, I purchased an Edge and that third tune is the stock one I have saved as my Level 0. Hopefully that clears it up some.

Just wanted to add that Ford can't tune for 87 octane because in the Rockies the cheap gas is actually 85 octane. 85 octane deteriorated over the course a of a few months would easily become 83 octane. That perfectly explains why they tune where they do and why I'm not changing the stock program.

Bluejay, I wonder if there is yet another program fix for that. My truck is fantastic off the line and up hill. If I get on the highway to get to town I have to merge uphill and I'm always impressed with the power and performance. And I blow people off the line at lights all the time. Seat of the pants wise this thing is almost as quick as my wife's Bimmer. I've been very impressed in the few months I've had it.

Eddie, the only person who made an assumption was you. I had the same question, no more no less. Notice I elaborated on what I was saying so there would be no confusion.

Maybe if you had wrote "I would like to know that, too, because you're describing..." instead of "What Eddie said cause..." I wouldn't have made that assumption. The way you wrote it sounded to me like I wanted to know because of the TSB. I did elaborate when I said "Just curious..." because that is the only reason I asked; because I was curious (or "nosey", if you ask my wife)

Thanks BlueJay, tomorrow I have to go in and get my emblems changed so I'll see how it shifts now...and then maybe try 6 6 6....and if I don't like that then back to the canned tune. I just wanted to see how it would help change the trucks shifting with the tires and everything. Ahem....to have gears...

Keep in mind that the pressure adjustment affects only the WOT shifts or near WOT. It does not affect just normal driving.

Bluejay, the Edge manual says you can adjust three things: WOT Shift Points, Standard Shift Points, and Shift Firmness. What numbers are you giving out?

That would be WOT shift pressure/firmness. +10, +10, +9.

Correct. I did not change normal shift points. My WOT shift points were 5250, 5250, 4800 with a max RPM of 5650.

But where are you guys getting that the setting changes WOT pressure only? I don't see that written anywhere in the manual.

It may not be in the manual and may have come from discussions with the tuner guys. But, if you drive one, it's obvious that the pressure is not changed under normal throttle. It's quick, but not hard. When you are in the throttle pretty good, the shifts get much harder if you have added pressure. A guy I worked with had his 06 set on 18, 18, 12. That was too firm for me, and I like a nice snappy shift.
