What do you tow with your F150 ?

Would like to get an idea of what others tow with their F150. I have a 27' Jayco eagle TT. Dry weight is 7800 lbs, loaded down is 9200 lbs. My truck does ok but did I over do it weight wise for the truck. Supposed to tow 9800 lbs according to owners manual.

Ummmm, well.... in my book, yes, to be frank. I'd rather keep a 10-15% margin, and many seem to follow that rule, as well. That would leave you a tow of between 8330 and 8820 pounds. I'd consider a 3/4 ton for a load that heavy, but only you know the factors. Are you within payload specs? Are you towing with a WDH? Brake control? How do you load your trailer and truck? How often do you tow? How far do you tow? All these things make up the equation, too.

I tow 7,000# about a dozen times a year, and 3,000# about 6-8 times a year. I also drive another 50,000 miles minimum for work when I am empthy and towing nothing. I can't justify a oil burner or a 3/4 ton gasser yet for my everyday driving use anymore, and maybe you are that type as well. Your 6% below gross towing may suit you as long as you are careful, are loaded properly, and have the proper towing equipment. One things for sure... you won't break any speed records with that weight, but SAFETY is what matters most.

Oh, and you might try posting in the TOWING section, you'll get beter responses there. I assume the Mod will move this soon, anyway.

Here's what I tow...

I only usually tow a trailer and two ATV's. So a few thousand pounds. And it's a really easy pull.

Once a year a small 20' boat. Usually I haul ATVs or loads of wood in the bed of my truck.

24' TT about 6900# through the Rockies.

As mentioned, check the Towing section here but the key number when you start to get into the upper range of the towing cap. is GCVWR...that is the total combined weight of truck, occupants, fuel, and gear as well as loaded trailer weight...I bet you are over.

I have a few pics posted up in the towing forum thread of some lighter loads, I really need to take the camera next time I have something over 7000lbs.

The last 2 years my towing has gone down alot, from 3, 4 and sometime 5 days days a week to 1-2 times a month. Now most of the time all that I am towing is our 6X12 enclosed work trailer (3000lbs), or a trailer with a couple of 4 wheelers on it. And once in a great while our S185 Bobcat.
