On a side note...why would you leave your truck running with the price of gas? I turn mine off every chance i get....give me a big enough hill and I'll coast right along (not really) but i do shut it down whenever possible...not to mention it's better on the engine.

I read somewhere once that starting you vehicle uses something like 10 minutes worth of gas at idle.
That was a while back though, may only apply to old crab vehicles.
I drive over a mountain range everyday, about 5 miles on the back slopes...all in neutral
That's a myth...even on the carburated engines...otherwise nascar wouldn't turn off their engines and coast when they're short on fuel...but I found this from Washington State Dept

- Carefully busted out a window w/o tripping the alarm and crawled in the window.
- Cut the wire to the BOO (Brake on/off) switch, so I could depress the brake pedal without the engine shutting off. The brakes would function, but the brake lights would not.
- Press your nifty engine start button.
- Pop off your column shroud (column shifter) or center console trim (floor shifter) and depressed the shift interlock button to shift the vehicle out of park without the signal from the BOO switch.
- Then I drive off into the sunset to my chop shop.
This is why remote starters themselves are illegal in some states. Once the vehicle is started it's very simple for someone to bypass the the remaining security measures.

does anyone know if you can get the start button that is activated by having the remote close, like the new lexus. My mom has the new ls 460 and it is pretty nice to be able to hop in a hit the start button and not have to worry about keys and when you get like 10 feet away from the car it locks and is secure.
Probably have to have a sensor or something or reconfigure the electrical system.....not worth doing for my big ol' truck....

just so you know... as a warning, not as criticism...
the park interlock is only a solenoid that can be manually defeated quite easily by cutting a hole in your column/floor console...
I say this only because if someone wants to screw with you they are not going to care if the vehicle doesn't steer. They will realize this after they have crashed into something and then run away, leaving you with a small problem.
