On a side note...why would you leave your truck running with the price of gas? I turn mine off every chance i get....give me a big enough hill and I'll coast right along (not really) but i do shut it down whenever possible...not to mention it's better on the engine.

I read somewhere once that starting you vehicle uses something like 10 minutes worth of gas at idle.

That was a while back though, may only apply to old crab vehicles.

I drive over a mountain range everyday, about 5 miles on the back slopes...all in neutral at like 85 usually.

That's a myth...even on the carburated engines...otherwise nascar wouldn't turn off their engines and coast when they're short on fuel...but I found this from Washington State Dept

- Drivers who shut off their engines, rather than idling for 30 seconds, benefit from both fuel savings and improved air quality. (average of recommended times from the U.S. EPA, Natural Resources Canada and Programs Europe)
- Frequent restarting has little impact on engine components like battery and starter motor. Wear caused by restarting is estimated to add $10 per year to the cost of driving, money likely recovered several times over in fuel savings. (Natural Resources Canada)
- Excessive idling can be hard on your engine because it isn’t working at peak operating temperature. Fuel doesn’t undergo complete combustion, leaving spark plugs dirty and contaminating engine oil. (Oregon’s Clean Air Action Day fact sheet)
- Idling isn’t an effective way to warm up your vehicle in cold weather. Modern engines need no more than 30 seconds of idling on winter days before starting to drive.

He does know something about him. You should have seen ford2004F150 ' s post before he edited it. There were a half of dozen rediculous yet funny what if scenarios and he was cursing him out. You people need to relax out there, some of you. If you post about your mod, you know full well not everyone will agree with it, so what? Lighten up and discuss it like a normal human being without cursing them out.

Nice mod.

I have a question though. What if I...

- Carefully busted out a window w/o tripping the alarm and crawled in the window.
- Cut the wire to the BOO (Brake on/off) switch, so I could depress the brake pedal without the engine shutting off. The brakes would function, but the brake lights would not.
- Press your nifty engine start button.
- Pop off your column shroud (column shifter) or center console trim (floor shifter) and depressed the shift interlock button to shift the vehicle out of park without the signal from the BOO switch.
- Then I drive off into the sunset to my chop shop.

This is why remote starters themselves are illegal in some states. Once the vehicle is started it's very simple for someone to bypass the the remaining security measures.

You still didn't unlock the steering column so your shop better be straight down the road. And the tach sense would pick up the increase in engine rpm and shut down. And before your ask, if you do cut the tach wire the start will shut down as well.

Illegal in some states??? You better call the oems cause their available in cars from the factory right now.

how did you open the unit? It's sealed shut, plus the pic appears to light up the same as mine. The $50 button from Ignited is now for sale, I should put it on ebay.

Not to be harsh to the original poster, but yeah, TXF150 is right. My 791xv does all that as well. The first post is like a feature description of the 791xv.

hey guys, i like the mods....

does anyone know if you can get the start button that is activated by having the remote close, like the new lexus. My mom has the new ls 460 and it is pretty nice to be able to hop in a hit the start button and not have to worry about keys and when you get like 10 feet away from the car it locks and is secure.

Probably have to have a sensor or something or reconfigure the electrical system.....not worth doing for my big ol' truck....

just so you know... as a warning, not as criticism...

the park interlock is only a solenoid that can be manually defeated quite easily by cutting a hole in your column/floor console...

I say this only because if someone wants to screw with you they are not going to care if the vehicle doesn't steer. They will realize this after they have crashed into something and then run away, leaving you with a small problem.

Theres actually an easier way to pick your gear you pop the cable right off the tranny and select your gear with the nifty little lever under the truck....

true but that involves going under the vehicle... popping the solenoid back doesn't take long at all and you have less of a chance of someone thinking something is up if you don't have to go under the vehicle to shift it.

I dont have a security, I just have remote start. Any help would be great
With my auto start, while the key is in the ignition I can reactivate the autostart and take out my keys and it will run for 15 minutes. Pretty nice for quick stops to the po box and stuff.
