Lower Strut Nut/Bolt
Lower Strut Nut/Bolt
Does anyone know for sure what size the Lower Strut Nut/Bolt are? I've heard that 1-3/16" work but it might be on the large side, would that mean then that it's 34mm? Please help. I am going to have to mail order one of these guys and I don't want to get the wrong one. I've been to Northern Tool, Harbor Freight, Autozone, Pep Boys and Home Depot. Nobody has one
I used a 1 3/16" and yes it did feel a little loose but I torqued it to 150 ft/lbs without any problems. A 1 3/16" deep well socket is hard to find, I don't know why. 1 1/8 and 1 1/4 are easy and so is 1 3/16" regular socket. I finally found one here locally, it is an impact however. Maybe someone with a shop manual can look it up to see if its metric or not, I wasn't for sure myself.

I found this thread searching for this exact information. I added pertinent information for the next person searching to make their job easier. If I am in the wrong, by all means correct me and I will cease to do so.

x2. And if I remember correctly, the lower strut bolt for connection to control arm is a whopping 351 ft lbs to torque to spec. I only had capability of 250 ft lbs, dealership re-torqued for me per request when I had it in for an overhaul service last December.
All the O'Reilly's near me have a 1/2 in torque wrench in their rent-a-tool program that goes up to 400 ft lbs. If you don't feel like letting them hold a check for a an hour, you can just torque it in the parking lot.
Don't kick yourself too quickly. I used to live a block from an OReilly and Autozone across the street from eachother. I made a couple repairs on my old truck that required removing the spindle nut...IIRC Autozone's wasn't heavy duty and only went to 250 ft lbs. At least that is how I will recall it right now so you can feel better about not borrowing it.
Yep .... it was when I was aligning my '07's front end that I found my 250 Ft Lb wrench was not enough, so I used a gift card I had saved and added a few $$ and bought a new longer 350 Ft Lb torque wrench at Sears .....
