The Hemi has at least 300ft-lbs (at the crank) at 1000rpm. 325 at 1500rpm. It is very similar to the the specs I have seen for the 3V 5.4L. Both engines get their peak torque higher than the current 2V F-150., but I think they also both have more torque at every engine speed.

Dyno charts show way different. They lack torque.

From what I can see both trucks should be very competent vehicles. While I have always favoured Ford products any of the big three truck products would blow away the same offerings they put out just 7 or 8 years ago. They were pretty good trucks last decade and they are all even better now.

As for the ricers, when japan apologizes for starting WW2 and allows free and fair trade like we do I will consider their products to be in existence.

Pick your flavor, a truck is a truck. They all have their problems. My King Ranch Screw $x4 has brakes that warped at 13k;Ford's company line (warranty coverage) is that they are a wear item at 12k. In my opinion 12k isn't much of a life expectancy for steel anywhere on the truck. Still F*#! stood their ground, the brakes aren't covered. Not reassurring.
On the other hand, Dodges are ugly, I can fix my brakes, but ugly is forever.

It doesn't really matter, it is just a truck.

much more importantly, BUY AMERICAN
Keep your money in the country after all, it's ours

By the way? didn't the Germans start the war?

Weezell,

We did not enter WW2 untill after the sneak attack by the japanese. Untill they apologize for their war crimes during those five years, and open their markets, we should not even let their products into our nation.

I agree that Ford brakes are the worst on the market. Almost every Ford I have ever owned has had weak brakes. They are SUPPOSED to be much better on the 04 and from what I have read about them they are thicker and much larger in diameter.

Nice quote of the day, who was the author?

Ok, I just wanted to put in some my $.02.
Sure the trucks have similar MSRPs, but it all ends up what you can get it for from the dealer. So prices will vary.

To tell you the truth I was planning on selling my '97 f150 and picking up one of the hemis. But, my mom made me a deal I couldn't refuse for an '02 f150 supercab. I jumped on it. I was still raved about the hemi until I saw 03f15054fx4's dyno numbers of the hemi. That doesn't impress me at all.

Another thing I saw in a fourwheeler mag, was they did an offroad comparison of a few vehicles. And they had the performance numbers of the f250 with the 6.0 powerstroke, and the dodge 2500 with the hemi. Well, the f250 actually beat it in the 0-60 and 1/4 mile times! And the hemi actually had lower gears! Really surprised me, and excited me. You could really surprise some ppl with a single cab f250 with the 6.0.

APT ,
I just wanted to add that BigDeal didn't mention that the Hemi he drove was also a crew cab like his. I didn't think that the hemis came in a crew cab 1/2 ton yet. If that's the case then his crew cab would weigh a lot more. Also, I didn't think that there was more drivetrain loss in a 4x4 as long as the 4wd is off. Not flaming, just trying to be more specific.

Says who? I haven't seen any 5.4L dyno plots below about 2300rpm, and no Hemi dyno plots below 3000rpm. No one knows exactly how much power they are producing down there at the wheels. From what I see, the Hemi has a lot of torque and the curve is almost a striaght line flat from 3000-4500rpm.

Offroadmanic, 4x4 has more drivetrain losses. The front driveshaft and half shafts are still connected to the engine taking up power. Some of the gears are not conencted in the front transfer case, though.

My wife is bringing home a Hemi the first weekend in May to flog. Should be interesting.

APT,
They aren't physically connected if it's not in 4wd. If the transfer case is engaged in 2wd the front driveshaft doesn't move, so that means neither do the half shafts. So really, all it does is add more weight.

hemi vs. 5.4

well it really shoudn't be an issue. dodge are built poorly witch everyone knows they are trying to create sales just like chevy has done with there horsepower and ford and stuck to there game and have done well best selling truck truck doesn't come easy. I have a friend james who bought a new dodge and the paint is peeling of and he has to pay $500 to get it re- painted dodges warranty doesn't cover it completely after three months of owning come on and they say that is a common thing with dodge so go ahead and by a dodge

I appologize for the incorrect statements. The main driveshaft still goes through the transfer case which causes a little more drag. That is all that affects the dyno. On the road, the front half shafts are directly connected to the wheels. When the vehicle is moving, there is additional extra drag. And of course the weight.

Which is quicker all else being equal, a 2wd with 300 pounds of payload or a 4wd that has 300 pounds of extra drivetrain?

shouldn't 345hp seem like a bigger difference?
Doesnt the Hemi lose around 80-90 hp by the time it hits the rear wheels??

Good points by several posters:
The Dodges have trouble getting the HP to the wheels. They have major HP and Torque losses. The Fords have been getting more to the wheels, where it matters to everyone but the engine dyno queens.

Cool

WOW! its a new hemi!
thats what dodge obviously wants you too say
but they do the same damn thing they always do,
put a big engine in something and do nothing else
the new ram srt/10 for example,
it has a viper v-10,
but it was not designed by the vipers maker,
carol shelby,
thats why the viper does so good, dodge didnt make it
they put money into it, but carol shelby designs it
the current lightning has 380 hp and the ram srt/10 has 500
but the lightning is almost as fast and handles alot better,
now next year when the new lightning comes out with over 120 more hp,it will blow the ram srt/10 out of the water,
dodge, chrysler doesnt know what the hell they are doin,
now as far as the new 5.4,
many people including some in this forum are like,
waaaah, the new hemi has 345 hp and the new ford has 300,
yall must not know much about trucks and engines obviously,
in pickups hp is not nearly as important as torque, unless you talk about the lightnings and such,
you must look at the torque
now hemi has 375 and ford has 365
a very small difference, but
most of you dont understand what that means
now, the ford had more torque at a lower rpm which means it can pull more, which is like the whole point of a non lightning pickup,
to help you understand more: at 1000 rpm, a little above idle,
the hemi has 125 lb of torque approx,
now the ford will have a little over 300 lb of torque at 1000 rpm which will yank the damn frame off a sorry *** hemi
the only thing that will be able to pull or haul more than a new f150 with a 5.4 ia a diesel,
if you dont believe me, look it up
hemi is about gimmick, ford is about power,
hell the old 5.4 which i had came with 350 lb of torque,
a dodge 360 (5.9l) came with 335, so
even though my old 5.4 was smaller it still had more power, and weighed less, and got a billion times better gas mileage, my friend had a reg cab short bed dakota rt with a 360,
i had a extended cab xlt f150 with a 5.4 and even though my truck was alot larger i still got better gas mileage, and on the new ones ford still gets better gas mileage and will have more power, dodge needs to sit down and worry about making a reliable product instead of a hemi breakdown mobile and work on happy customers instead of gimmicks
and also need to worry when the #1 sellind vehicle for the last 21 years comes out with a new version that looks better and is more powerful, costs less money, holds its value better than a breakdown mobile

talk to ya
