I must say, I shed a few tears reading that fine post. I have never been so moved. I was aware of our tq advantage, but I was not aware of the huge difference at idle. Has anyone seen a graph charting the tq curves on these powerplants?
EVILC, you are our my new hero if you go to the Dodge forum at pickuptruck.com and say exactly what you just said here.

Where did you get those numbers from? 125ft-lbs for the Hemi at 1000rpm? Try 300ft-lbs, similar to the 3V 5.4.

I had a Dodge 2500HD Quad cab 8' bed 2wd Hemi for the weekend. It is hard to compare to my 4wd Loaded Lariat Supercab F-150 5.4L, but the Dodge is without a doubt stronger and more pleasent of an engine tranny combo to drive. The trans shifts much like an F-150 with a Superchip, quick and crsip, but smooth, and not hesitant to downshift. I really enjoyed driving it. Would I trade my truck in for one? Nope, but if I were in the market for a new truck, I would seriously consider a 1500 Ram 4wd Hemi. Dash materials were pretty good, just different styling than my familiar Ford. And the exhaust note is more appropriate for a V8 pickup.

We got a video from the dealer meeting showing the 04 F-150. They did a drag race while pulling 6000# trailers. The Dodge with the 5.9L was a joke, the Ford was way ahead of it. They also raced the Hemi 5.7L pulling the same trailer and again the Ford was ahead, but the Dodge was right at the Fords rear bumper. They said they tested to 60 MPH.

Ok boys, enough of the numbers and speculation! My neighbor down the street just bought a 2003 Dodge 1500 SLT 4-door 2x4, with the HEMI motor and 5-spd automatic tranny. I've already begun the attack on the HEMI pretty heavily in his presence as well as his manhood for having bought into the Dodge hype. Anyway, he has agreed to accomopany me to Speed World here in Orlando in a week or two and run me in my poor old '01 Ford 5.4L SCrew. When we're done, I'll start a new thread and post a link to any videos we take of the outing as well as copies of any/all timeslips. At that point, who cares what the HP & torque numbers are on paper... Maybe I should start a wagering thread on who will walk away with the win. Any takers?

Well? How did it go? I got to know, my brother just bought into the same crap about the hemi, he thinks its the best thing since sliced bread! It is alot faster than the 318 Dodge Truck it replaced but then again....what wasn't? hehe

Make us Ford Owners proud and WHOOP that Dodge!

Good Luck,

Adam

I can't believe the number of excuses I've gotten outa this guy over the past couple weeks! He's used about every excuse in the book as to why he can't visit the drag strip with me. I've now started attacks on his manhood for having bought such a p*ssy truck, in the hopes that I can goad him over the edge. You know, for a truck that's supposed to be able to blow my poor little Ford into the weeds, he sure is reluctant to prove it. I'll let you know what happens (if anything ever does!).

GUy on a Chevy site said two BONE STock hemi Reg Cab SB 4x2s with less than 1000 miles on them ran 14.8/14.9 1/4 at his local track

Chevy guys ain't gonna be praising Dodges unless they see it for themselves

So I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the hemi as hype

Yeh, but Chevy guys drink heavily, so who knows what the times actually were! Guess I'd drink too if I owned a Chevy.

On a different note, I did a little test drive in a new Dodge 4-door 1500 series 2x4 HEMI recently (just like my neighbor has), to see what I was up against. Let's just say, if my neighbors Dodge beats my SuperCrew, it damn sure won't be by much.
Stay tuned................

You can go get your Hemi, but you are still driving an ugly truck

By that, you mean the HEMI is an ugly truck (i.e. not my SuperCrew). Wanted to clarify exactly what you meant by this comment.

I would never call your Supercrew an ugly truck, but that Dodge is butt ugly.
Remember, Ford has a 388 horse power n/a 32 valve 5.4 motor out already. Check out Ford Australia's high performance Falcons and the Pursuit.

Cool To little to Late

I test drove a Dodge 1500 SLT 4x4 with the new Hemi. I opened the doors, tailgate, and hood. It was fast. It could make the tires smoke. It was faster. It shifted nice. It "looked" nice.

But you know what? Its a dodge. It felt cheap. The hood felt like it would bend in half before closing. The doors felt light and I noticed also it was not a true four door. Its like a long extended cab with door handles. It drove like crap. First turn actually concerned me. The front end dipped and the back end felt like it was going to come over my shoulder. The truck handled like crap.
The door panels didn't line up when closed. The metal bent just like on the chevy when you leaned on it.

THe chevy Z71 I was going to trade in drove much better. Felt more solid.

I then test drove a Ford F-150 Supercrew FX4 with the 5.4 and LS 3:73 rear end.

WOW! Maybe not as fast but dang.....torquey...and it was solid. Tailgate wieghs more, metal skin was thicker. Ride was ten times better, it could turn inside a dodge any day. It handled and drove better then any truck I have ever driven. It felt like it could pull both the chevy and dodge and not even break a sweat.

Yeah the dodges look good now. But its all cosmetics. Cheap ones.

How many old dodges do you see on the road? I look around and there are 10x's as many old Ford and Chevy's out there. More Fords actually. Reliability seems to be better in Ford.

The Triton motor has won more awards then any other V-8 out there. True dodge might have a winning motor with the new hemi....but look at what they are putting it in. A truck that rides and handles like crap. They have really neat storage options, but I have a feeling that in ten years from now, most of them will be in the junk yard. Motors might still be running, but what's the point of having a running motor if there is no truck to use it with.

I bought the Ford f-150 Supercrew FX4. True four door, built like a tank, proven motor, proven drive train, proven reliability. Proven resale value. Try that with a dodge. I went ahead and bought this year knowing fully the new 2004 Ford trucks will be a new motor and new design. I have made my decision knowing all the bugs would be worked out on the last year model and wanted to wait a few years for them to work out any bugs on the 2004-200x models. I need reliable transport that will hold up. It would have been good to put in a 5 speed. Would help with milage, but I like having a truck with tons of torque. This to me is more important then horsepower. Torque is what does the work. True dodge might have more torque, but if your truck falls apart trying to use it, then whats the point of having it?

Chevy has the same problem. It feels like tin foil. Raise and lower the tail gate on Chevy and dodge and then do the same to your Ford. There is a huge wieght difference. Take them off road. I saw tests on video tape of extreme off roading with the big three.

First the Bed of the chevy popped off. Its welded on. The suspension broke on the dodge. Ford made it through with a bruised driver, but the truck remained intact. And didn't have to be repaired or towed home.

I'll put my Ford F-150 FX4 against Dodge and Chevy any day. They might whup my **** in a drag race( straight line only)but when it comes time to go off road, or standing the test of time, Ford is #1. (I've owned all three). I'd buy Chevy again, great trucks. But not nearly as solid as Ford. Dodge? No way. Hemi or not, the truck is a piece of crap that is dressed up to look nice.
Just my opinion.

Jeff
