Balljoints

What involved in replacing them? (laymans terms). Mine are gone and need to be done. Can anyone estimate a cost and what tools do I need to rent to do it?

factory upper ball joints cant be removed from the a-arm (unless you have moog factory replacements) so just loosen the ball joint bolt and you can rent a fork from the parts store, or just give it a good hit upwards with a hammer to get the ball joint to remove its self from the spindle. unbolt the a-arm and replace. I used a jack under the spindle to make things easier.

the lowers are pressed in, you will need to have you lower a arms taken to a press of some sort. Which means taking the coil out and I have personally never done this, so someone else would be better telling you than I would. Idk if you can just use a jack to slowly lower the a-arm (seen it done but seems dangerous lol) or have the use the coil compressor tool.

Hope this helps some David

Easy man.. buy the lowers (MOOG brand) preferably. Then borrow a ball joint press from vatozone or something and press the lowers out. The uppers aren't too bad. Usually you just replace the upper control arms and then call it a day. I dont know if you have camber bolts or whatever. Just make sure you put your new UCAs close to where the older ones are to maintain the alignment.

yeah ^^ you can rent a balljoint press from autozone for $100 and its actually easy to do, just set up the spacers right and use a socket wrench and a piece of pipe(for leverage). you can probably just knock them out with a hammer and press the new ones in with the press, i replaced all mine by myself in about 3 hours. the UCA's were about $120 each and the lower balljoints were about $30 each

I got ebay uppers for 100 and they are still good after 4 months. Doubt they will be good forever but they work fine for now until I get aftermarket uppers. Lowers are just moog replacements. Pretty sure you could get everything done for 200 tops.

Mine got to the point that I thought my tires were going to fall off if I hit too bad of a bump (exaggeration). Every parts store within 15 miles had their ball joint tool loaned out. I ended up using a big hammer, a couple 2" pieces of 2" heavy duty pipe, a couple jacks, and a brick. It sounds crazy but 20k later, they're still good to go.

The uppers come with the new arm and new rubber bushings and are not that pricey at Advance Auto and there TRW brand thats what I bought..The lowers after you get everything out of the way will knock out after you take off the snap ring..Lay the PB Blaster too them first let'em soak a bit.THe new ones just start them in the hole put a floor jack up against them apply a little upwards pressure and then smack the a arm downward with a hammer apply a little pressure and smack it again do this till it seats ..It isnt a tough job..
