Is it just me not feeling black wheels?

My son tells me I have to go with black wheels on my new truck and they're clearly the rage around here. I've poured through tons of pictures and just don't warm up to the look. For some reason it looks "cheap" to me. Not classy. Is it because growing up chrome was cool? I don't know.

Don't get me wrong, there are a ton awesome trucks that look great with all black wheels but I find that it is mostly because of the stance on a lifted truck with huge wheels/tires.

I'm OK with the combo look like the black/polished look of an XD Addict. But the all black wheels on truck that is just leveled isn't working. This is for a black truck, I tend to like the look much better on a white truck but thats about it. So, is it just me?

I dont think so. im 27...im not sure what age classification im in as far as chrome being cool, but I prefer chrome. Not chrome everything like some people do, but wheels i prefer chrome. There are Black ones that i like and I will probably eventually get black ones for the winter months just to save my chrome from getting pitted. I guess it depends on what look you are trying to achieve.here is my wheels on my last truck.

I think you need to go with the style of wheel YOU like. Not what your son likes or what he feels the is the "rage"
If chrome is what you like, then chrome it should be. Besides, black and chrome is always a nice combo.

Black wheels have really started to grow on me. But I still hate those black, steel "rockcrawler" wheels.

Sharp ride Smokey! Yeah I know its my decision just trying to find another perspective that I might be missing out on. Wish I could see more in person rather than pictures but don't see a lot of black wheels now that I've been watching. I'll keep an open mind for now, have a couple weeks before the new truck is in, but leaning chrome right now.

I had 22 inch Chrome on my previous truck and the upkeep is more work than I want to do. They look great when clean, but I live where it snows and rains and didn't want to have two sets of wheels. My Chrome pitted terribly and still looked okay from far but up close, not soo much. Now I have black and they are minimal upkeep and I will be keeping this set on year round. I guess I grew out of the Chrome look for now. I wish I had color matched bumpers instead of Chrome but oh well. Just a personal preference. Watch out for wheels that have simulated screws or indentations. They are a pain to clean with Chrome.

Not all black wheels are gonna look nice just like chrome wheels, the design makes a wheel look good or ok and the finish can add to it. I loved my black wheels on my old truck but I had them powdercoated black because they only sold the wheel in chrome. I also love the chrome wheels on my current truck.

On a truck, especially, I want the wheels to look like steel. I'm not crazy about chrome or black, but a brushed steel look is what I really like.

I'm completely happy with the King Ranch wheels.

What happened to the black truck? I think that truck looks near perfect.

I hated to get rid of it but the ford dealer couldn't duplicate a problem it was having with the front end. I replaced the iwe's and etc. But it got narrowed down to spending $1100 and hoping it fixes the problem so I traded her in with 97,000 miles. My current truck is just a work in progress for now

See, and for me the new one is a much higher quality look. I guess you disprove the myth that 'once you go black you never go back'... lol.

Black wheels only look good on certain trucks. A black wheel on a black truck is to much black IMO. They look pretty good on a white, silver, red and even gray truck. Also when choosing black or chrome wheels you should follow one theme, in other words DON'T put black wheels on a truck with chrome bumpers. Black wheels should go on a truck with painted bumpers only.

I'm 34 and I hate the chromed out look. I think there is a very fine line with chrome between looking good and looking tacky. My chrome/SS is minimal.

I like black so much even my dog is black, lol. You could always consider the XD Hoss in Black Machined, the Fuel Gauge in Black Machined, or the Fuel Hostage in Black Machined.

KMC XD Hoss

Fuel Gauge

Fuel Hostage

Another good place to look at pics is RimzOne's Facebook page. They have a ton of pictures of different setups.

Here's a pic of the Fuel Gauge's on a black Sierra

Well I got a good deal on the truck and wasn't going to pass it up just cause it had the Chrome package. I think it looks good. I did take the Chrome sidesteps off. I would like to get them color matched but it seems that it is hard to paint Chrome.
