255/80/17 BFG M/Ts Should I?

Hey guys. As the title says I have been notified of a set of pizza cutters. I'm wanting to go to a narrower tire to help with some gas mileage. As I don't do much off the pavment, I want to go A/T but the shop has a set of M/Ts in stock and that's what I am currently running in 285/70/17. So does anyone have any pics of the 255/80/17s on a truck? Any opinions? Let me know quick. I need to make a move on these.

Not lifted. And I thought they were 33" tall. That would make more than 4 inches of rubber.

Personally I wouldn't run them. I just think tall, skinny tires look weird.

I would keep the 285s. That narrow tire would look a little funny to me. But hey man, its your choice and money so you do whatever you want!

I'd really like to keep the 285 size. But at 50 dollars a tire cheaper the pizza cutters are tempting. How many MPGs would you think I could see added?

Im not sure but when I went from the stock 255/70/17 General tires to 285/70/17 Firestone Destination MTs I have now, I dropped 2-3 MPG. So maybe you will gain a little MPG? What are your tires now?

BFG M/T 285/70/17 . I have a set of 16" wheels too. Is there a 33" tire that's narrower than the 285s but not as pizza cutter as the 250s that I could put on those 16s?

Oh yeah you wouldnt gain much at all. If your going from a 33x11.5 MT to a 33x10 MT, I dont think your gona save much. I would just keep the 285s man.

Bit the bullet...

Well I did it guys. Was between the 255/80 MTs and the 285/70 ATs. Not gonna lie to you fellas, I liked the look of the 285s better than the 255s. BUT, at $200 cheaper, I couldn't resist it, plus I don't think it looks terribly bad. I also just made the trip back down to Aggieland and averaged just under 18 MPGs. Probably about a mile per gallon better than before. And that's running at 35 PSI, will most likely bump up to 38 or 40. Got the great warranty and replacment placement plan from Discount Tire so thats a huge plus. Well enough talk here are some pics.

Looks gooood

Nice lookin' Sport, beast . Tires look good too!

Same year, same black toolbox, same color as my Sport. Bought it in Florida in '05. I've been eying 285/70/17 Bridgestone Dueler revo 2's for couple weeks now, can't wait to buy them after I sell my 33" MT baja claws.

But thanks for the photos - Truck looks like mine and i've been lookin online, and wanted to see what exactly what outlined white lettering would look like on our '01.

I'll have my own photos of mine tomorrow, first day I haven't had to work in like, 8 days. Yay for time and a half!

Congrats on the tires man
