325tire's too wide for a 9.5" wide wheel?

I went to our local tire store yesterday to get my tire's and wheel's rebalanced after a weight fell off and the tire guy's got to looking and realized my tire's were worn more down the middle than the side's. One of them asked why were they worn uneven and I told him that the previous owner ran the tire pressure to high and it caused the outer side's of the tire's to lose contact with the pavement. Well the superviser heard me and decided to try and make me look like a retard by saying that the tire's were too wide for the wheel's and that was causing the uneven wear. I tried telling him that the previous owner ran the tire's at 60psi and that i've dropped the pressure to 38psi for the front's and 35psi for the rear's and when I drive over a peice of paper the whole width of the tire is making contact with the ground but he insisted he was right and I was wrong. He then started showing me a selection of tire's he had and I told him that i'll take my business elsewhere. Was I right or him?

Go to the tire manufacturer's website and it will say the minimum rim width you should mount them on.

12.8 inches is 325 width on an 8.5 inch wide rim. What the tire size 235/?/?
60 psi is alot so they definitely would have worn wrong.
But they still might be to wide for that rim size.

They have member's on here running 325's on the stock 7 1/2" wheels. I think a wheel 9 to 10 inches wide would be perfect.
