Tire pressure monitor system

this is my first thread, i just signed up and cannot find any thread on the Tire pressure monitor system. I just got a 2.5 inch leveling kit, with Moto Metal 951's with **** Cepek F-C II 33x12.50's and my tire pressure light is coming on in my dash. Is there a way i can turn this off, or fix it? I know i dont have the sensors thats on the stock rims. Any input will be helpful. Thanks.

To 'fix' it, buy new monitors and straps. Then have the dealer register the monitors with your vehicle. Cost probably in the $4-600 range. I don't like this either. I have 2 sets of wheels/tires and will be in the same boat.
So far I have done searches and have not found any way to disable it. Still looking.

The only way I have thought of so far is build a metal box that can be sealed and pressurized. Put the monitors in it and stuff it under the seat. Would love to find a setup like that.

My Toyota has a tire pressure monitoring system, but you set the desired pressure by depressing a button. The trick is to set the tires at the OEM recommended pressures, then depress the button to "capture" the pressure. Any deviations will trigger the alarm.

That being said, you should be able to correct for different tire sizes/pressures by resetting the "default" tire pressure. I'm not familiar with the Ford pressure monitoring system (n/a on my 05), but I'd be surprised if they didn't have a similar feature hidden somewhere. Perhaps even future programmers could solve this issue.

Does the Ford system display the current pressures (e.g. Corvette/GMs) or does it only go off when the pressure is out of spec? (e.g. Toyota)

Just my, .02..

It lights a light on the dash or puts up a message in the message center. What year is your Toyota, the laws changed for 07? The problem here is that there will not be a monitor in the wheel for my extra set or the new wheels MotoMetal has. No signal, it get set off.

Yes you can, but in my case I have 2 sets of wheels. That means another set of sensors, straps, and a cost of about $50 at the dealer to have the sensors recognized by the system. That would be $50 twice a year. Also I believe MotoMetal may not have the sensors any more.

I switched my sensors using 2 sided tape and large AC wire ties from Home Depot (10 ea for $8). When I was at my local tire shop the guy said he had a pile of sensors he had removed and would give them to me if needed. I would guess your local shop would have them as well. Good Luck!

i was in the same boat with my sensors i found a place online that sells new bands and cradles. they are like $17.00 a lot cheaper than the one from ford.

www.americanmuscle.com

they told me that they would work so im going to try it. the guy that is putting my wheels on has a girlfriend that works a ford she talked to her tech and they said that all you had to do was switch the sensor over. i was told by another place that they just used a bunch of hose clamps when they change them over. i will have the bands in a few days and will post the results

F buying the bands.....just use "safety wire" and the double sided tape that is allready on the sensors. I did a small write up on it a while back I'll go look for it. Easy, inexpensive and works!
