Exclamation question on tire width (sticking out)

hey fellas, i got a quick question on backspacing and offset or whatever. I am not really knowledgable in this stuff yet so i sort of need a crash course. I was wondering what difference it made. Like i want a tire that will stick out past the fender of my truck, i love that look. Can i coontrol how much stick out by backspacing measurement and offest? If anyone has pics of nice fat tires like a 325/60r18 or something.. shoot me some pictures and let me know what your rolling on..

thanks guys

so it it something like when you buy a rim it is pre determined how much of the tire will stick out by how much backspacing it has? or can you decide how much back spacing you wantsd rtegardless of the rim?

Backspacing is a measurement of the wheel...if you have a different tire, on a different truck, but the same wheel, you'll have the same backspacing.

So if you want your tires to stick out, then you need to look at the backspacing measurements on the wheels you consider. Keep in mind there is a certain range you'll want to keep it within...I dont know what it is but you should find out.

If you want them to stick out a couple of inches, you probably want a 12 inch wider wheel with around the stock 4 1/2 inches of backspacing. With a wheel that wide, you will probably need to lift the truck to prevent rubbing.

It all depends on the backspacing.

for instance

like for instance, would a tire on a rim that is 9.5 inches wide, strick out the same distance as the same tire on a rim that is 10 inches wide if the two rims have the same backspacing measurment?

They are gonna be near even with the edge of the wheelwell.
A tire on a 10 inch wide wheel will stick out 1/2 inch farther than the same size tire on a 9.5 inch wide wheel if ***** wheels have the same backspacing.

you might want to ask your local law enforcement offical if it's even legal to have your tires stick outside your fenders. i'm sure it's illegal unless you plan on adding fender flares to cover it up. if you have to add the flares then why bother. not sure why you would want them sticking out anyways, your just going to stone chip the heck out of your truck and add unneccessary stress to your axles, studs etc.

good luck

My set up

Well on my 05 I got Helo max 6 rims that are 18x9 and I got the new M/T ATZ tires size 325/60/18. The back spacing on the rims I believe are 4.5 or so. The tires stick out around 2 inches or so past the wheelwell. I will try and post a few pics when I get her cleaned up a bit. Later-Justin
