Question

Has anyone checked the other components of the package? How about the battery? Did you get the larger battery? How about the tranny cooler? What would one look for in order to verify the so-called heavy-duty shocks?

I just made a call to a local ford service department.

Me: What the price was for a radiator for a 2001 f150.
parts guy(PG): What engine do you have?
Me: 5.4
PG: $360
Me: what are the part #'s for it?
PG: there are 3.
Me: OK, what are they just so I know?
PG: There are 2 sets of #'s. Engineering and OEM part #'s. I just gave you the most expensive price till you can find out exactly which one you need.
Me: Which ones should I use?
PG: The engineering #'s are the ones on the radiator. The OEM ones are for us to order parts from ford.
Me: I'll take them all, just so I have them.
PG: OEM #'s / Engineering #'s are:
F75Z-8005-GA / F75H-8005-GB
XL3Z-8005-AA / XL3H-8005-AB
YL3Z-8005-GA / YL3H-8005-GA
Me: Does it matter if I have the towing package?
PG: Most likely that is the difference it the part numbers.
Me: What are the sizes of each one?
PG: It doesn't tell me that, just the numbers. If you have your VIN number I should be able to tell which one is on your truck now.
Me: Sorry, don't have that. But I'll take these numbers and see which one I have now. Thanks.
PG: No problem, have a good day.

The parts guy was very friendly.

Hope this helps you all figure out which ones you need. My engineering number was locateed on the drivers side of the radiator ear the top. I'm going to check it tonight.

Just checked my truck. I have the correct radiator! Mine is a XL3H-AB as marked on the radiator. The tag also has a date of 10/12/00, and "05:35" whatever that is.

Now I just need to find the Ford documentation that says it is a 1.42" radiator. If the posts in this forum are correct, it is.
**update** I just read another post that says this is the 1.02" radiator. I have no idea now, totally confused. Where is the ford literature for the sizes and part numbers for these trucks?

Cool

Pull the cover over the radiator. It will be very apparent what size you have then. Use an awl to pop out the plastic screws that won't back out.

deep6blue----------- Use a tape measure and see how thick the radiator core is. There is a small open section on the top right corner of the shroud that the core can be measured from.-----some have noted the same part # on different thickness radiators. Mine was replaced by a good dealer after factory rep. approval. 2000 trucks with tow pkg should have 2.02" thick radiators and 2001 with tow pkg. should be 1.42" thick

Er umm.. I like, totally agree with Dave F, like, because he is a new member, with like 5 posts, and like, he has read like the entire thread, all 334 plus posts, and like he is soooo LOUD you know? haha

Man, I just had to do that.

I am curious to see if my truck can pull a 5000lb trailer in 90 degree plus temperatures with the 1" radiator, without overheating.

The Super cooling / HD electrical comes with the Tow package and does not have to be ordered separately.

You may be able to tow 10,000 lbs. and the engine run cool but what about that tranny.

So far my dealer has ordered a 1.42" FOR MY 2000 F-150 supercab 5.4 with the class 3 package. When I showed him the sourcebook page, all he could say was, " where did you get that?" My new 2- row 2.02 radiator was ordered the same day. Now the waiting begins. So far, I have not had too much of a hassle, but I'll update all of the progress. When you go in armed with their own spec sheet, there really is no arguement that they can put forth that will hold any water. I'll let everybody know how it goes. Only suggestion that I would say to all is make sure that you e-mail ford.com under " problems " and elaborate on the subject. That is what I did, and I had a call within 3 days from my local service manager. Good luck everybody !!!

Well add me to the list of wrong radiator. I just traded in my 1999 F-150 4.2 Man, for a 01 F-150 4.6, Auto, Tow Package, LS 3:55. Now I know I was right when I popped the hood at the dealer and saw that skinny A** radiator again just like my trade. I even had the service Mgr come over and explain to me why the radiators looked the same in both trucks, when I was getting the Towing Package\HD Cooling|Elec Package. Well his BS story was something to do with this has a bigger surface area and more and bigger fan blades, plus a different fan cluthch??? HUH??
Anyway no problem, i'm retired with plenty of time to deal with this. (kinda like a Pit bull on your pants leg). Hope these fools do the right thing as I'm getting ready for my yearly two month camping trip mid June. I'll post my results.
Regards from SO. Calif

All I had to do was politely make a regular svc appointment at my dealer and tell the svc person I had the wrong radiator. They changed mine out without a whimper or shred of arguement - he said "yeah we had to deliver one yesterday and the guy wouldn't take it without the right radiator, we know about the problem". Does your dealer take the FORD line, or does he treat you right? Take yer business elsewhere if he don't. If yours won't give you a new radiator you have my sympathy, and I hope you can convince a different dealer to do what's right. Get the radiator!

I pulled the shroud off when I got it home to verify, and yep, I now have a fat 1.5" "YL3H-GA" radiator in my SCrew (plus new coolant and I had 12k on mine LOL). And it gets mighty hot here in Dixie. Bye y'all!

Ford replaced mine as a misbuild, I guess its how your dealer handles the situation. Since I was the one who started this whole radiator issue, I did a lot of reserch, its funny to see some of the comments here, (ie) a 2 row 1.42", or that "dealers are not replacing radiators as misbuilds" or that the GA is a 2 row Lighting spec'ed unit, its not!!YL3Z8005-GA is a 1.42" single core. I just hope that those who go to a dealer for a replacement do their homework, and not make themselfs look foolish defending a position based on some Mis-Information or opinions found here. That will ruin your creditability along with your chances of getting it replaced.
