Thanks to everyone who has posted their information here. I took my 01 SCrew into Drew Ford in San Diego for service and asked them to check out the radiator problem. They were going to compare it to other trucks on the lot but I asked them to check the Ford specs. instead. I gave them all of the information that I had gathered from here including the part number for the correct radiator. They installed the 1.42" radiator with no problems. I wouldn't even have known of this problem if it had not been for all of you. Thanks again.

An update from last nite as I said I went to the dealer this morning where I bought my PU Redlands Ford. I first talked to the parts people who game me the part # for the 1.42" radiator YL3Z8005GA. With that I then saw the service Mgr. & talked the issue with him he first checked his Computer to see if there were any internal memo's reguarding this, there was not. He then called Ford and talked to the enginering people who told him that the radiator I had was the correct one. He then asked what he was supposed to tell the customer. so they told him that Ford was putting in the larger radiator but stopped because the 1.02 and the 1.42 have the "same flow characteristics". Well I could tell that the Service Mgr. thought that was a BS answer so he told me that he would contact the Ford Rep. and work up an estimate and get the radiator replaced for me. He said it usually takes 24-36 hrs to get a ok from the Rep. His thinking was if it makes the customer happy do it. I'll see if he is on the level or if he is blowing smoke up my A**

No dealer in mid michigan is going to exchange my radiator or anybody elses. I don't care what proof you show them. They will not eat the cost.
My area rep won't even talk to me because at present time Ford is not changing these radiators.
At the present time I have a misbuilt claim sent into Ford and am waiting for a response.

Talking

Got my new 2.2” radiator! Wow is it huge!…. Took all the proper documentation into the dealership, and they ordered a new one. The service report read “coolant leaking from radiator – replace radiator”

The larger radiator did make a difference in engine temps. Traveling to the dealership the temp was at 195-200, @ 70mph with the a/c on. On the way home 190-193 with the a/c on, same speed, same ambient temp.

The most dramatic change was while sitting in traffic. The needle stayed at 195, when it would have previously gone upwards of 210.

I also changed my twin perma-cools to a single 16” derale. It is much quieter! And is moving tons more air!

If your dealer isn’t replacing your radiator…..find a new dealer! The larger radiator does make a difference.!!!

Question

Hi, all.

I've been watching this string closely
as I just ordered my truck and want to
make sure it has the whole package.

Is there a way to tell how wide the rad
is WITHOUT taking the cowling off? I'm
not sure that the dealer will allow me
to start prying parts off of a truck I
haven't singed for yet.

I see the radiator through the opening on
the right, but is this the "core"? Better
yet - does anybody have any pictures that
show the area to measure?

Any help would be much appreciated.

From the drivers side, I was able to see the radiator & ac core and the large space between them without taking off the plastic cover. It was fairly obvious that the 1" radiator was installed. I was also able to read a part# off of a sticker that was still on my radiator which was the part# for the 1" radiator.

The plastic cover is held on with about 8 plastic gromets which are easily removed. Have their service tech. take it off if that makes them feel better but it's probably not necessary. The dealer can also look up what part was installed by your vin# so they shouldn't have to look at it at all. My dealer took one look under the hood and said "it'd just be easier if I pulled it up on the computer".

You always have small claims court, you have more than enough evidence(source books, sales lit, online source book,Hell even Ford website for ordering) to back your claim, yet Ford has no official word in writing that there was any production change, they have nothing but words to back any of thier claims. Send a demand letter to your purchasing dealer, stating if they don't resolve this issue, you'll take them to court to recover the costs of the option, and you know what, you'll win!!

Thanks for all the research and info you guys have provided! I just went out and measured my core, and I've got the 1.02 radiator in my 2000 SC 5.4 Tow Package 4X4 OR.

Now the question is, do I go fight over the new radiator, or go in to wrestle about the door crack I discovered this week. Also, the three closest dealers (small towns) won't/can't do warantee body work. Have to plan a trip to the city to get the door fixed.

Has anyone else found the incorrect battery installed(tow package)?

Cool

Go present it to the service department at your local dealership. I've come to the conclusion that most Ford dealers, their employees and their Regional Reps are nothing more than thieves. (See sig)

Be persistant if they give you the run around, and don't hesitate to be assertive to the point of being nasty if you have to. The bottom line is that Ford doesn't give a rats @ss once you sign the bottom line!!

RickT, so far the only thing that has been confirmed is the wrong radiator, but that is by far the easiest thing to check. I believe that some members are checking to see if there are any other issues.

One question for you towing packagers, I have a 99 5.4L sport 4X4 without the tow package. I have posted in towing and hauling and read previous posts. What is the difference between a 5.4 and a 5.4 with a tow package.
I know the obvious, hitch and 7 pin connector, but what are the others. I have the 2 smaller coolers in front and I have 2 rads.

I am getting a little confused on this issue?
