Talk to your dealer. I have not found the tranny cooler on my truck yet. As for the shocks get under it and get the numbers of the shocks and ask the parts dept if they are HD. They are telling me I have the HD gas shocks. Time will tell.

The tranny cooler will be on the front of the truck, on the right side of you as your underneath the front, facing towards the back. This cooler should be about 12x18 inches or so, the source book will tell you based on your engine and transmission. go here... http://fordtruck.fordtraining.com/cg...=17&buttonid=4 click on cooling specs and also on trailer towing to find out what you should have. My dealership replaced my rad with the 1.42 without too much fuss. I'm sure I was the first of soon to be many, so others may follow easier now!

Many thanks for this info. I will add it to mine when I visit my dealer. My dealer said I should have all this stuff Ford is thinking about it. I think that this means I'm Screwed. But this old fart is retired and has nothing to do but make their life not so nice.

I thought the core on the driver’s side was a power steering cooler. The core on the left is the trans cooler. Yes I have the 1" rad and the stock trans cooler with the towing package. Called the dealer and they are "looking in to it."

If this issue involved something like wheels, radio or more a noticeable option there would be no "looking in to it." The problem would be corrected. Just because it's not a blatant misbuild customers should not be treated as if they were pests, troublemakers or problem owners. That's the way the dealer was treating me when I first contacted them with the problem...all smiles when they took my money though.

Cool

Add my truck to the list. I checked a few days ago and sure enough, wrong radiator.

Took it to the dealer with print-outs from the Source book and, after a long investigation, they ordered me the 1.42" and said they'd call me when it comes in to schedule a time to put it in. The dealer never really questioned me, saying "if it's wrong, we want to fix it for you."

As soon as it's in ...wait...just received the call from the dealer asking me to drop the truck off tomorrow at 7 a.m. to install "a monster of a radiator". woo hoo! I'll post an update tomorrow after it's in.

Thanks to this board and everyone here for all of this information.

Cool

The short version of the long story is this(after 3 weeks of agravation). Don't waste your time with the Ford Customer care people, they are politically correct idiots. Go back to your dealer and show them the information in the Ford Source book. Within 5 minutes of doing so the correct 1.42" rad(YL3Z-8005-GA) was ordered and installed within a week. If you are in Eastern Ontario contact Brian Turner(Service Manager), Hudson Ford, Brockville, Ont at 613-341-FORD. He knows of the problem NOW and should fix you up without any hassle. I'm sure he will know who gave you the heads up!

Hi Oldkoot,
Hate to throw a iron in your cog but that does not work. I went to the dealer today with the info from the source book. Showed them that it was incorrect and then after he said they have the right to change anything, I said sure, here is the 2001 source book but it still shows a larger radiator. So, now he has to call for a verification to install the correct radiator so as not to void my warranty. What a load of horsesh#t!!!!! If I don't get the correct one, I guess they are getting the lawsuit deal!!!

Go to www.fordtraining.com, click on "Truck" under "2001 eSourceBook". Click on "F150". Click on "Specifications". Then scroll down to "Cooling System Specifications". I've pasted the URL below. In the cooling column, SC stands for Super Cooling.

What is the SC stand for in the source book for the 1.42 radiator? Is it SuperCab or SuperCrew, and does it indiacate the trailer package comes with the 1.42?

Good news, at least for me Dealer just installed a upgraded radiator in my truck. They said it would be a 1.42 and the part no. they sent on the "yo parts are in" card looked like a 1.42. But a tape measured well over two inches. I'll pull the cover this weekend and make sure I wasn't measuring the side tank by accident. That thing looks HUGE compared to the original.

BTW, what I did was take a copy of the Spec book webpage and some part numbers to the service manager where I bought the truck. Of course, they'd never heard of it. We took a look and he agreed it was a 1" radiator. He said he'd contact Ford and call me back. Next day I get a call asking for the mileage, he'd forgot to get it. He told me he had to contact Ford's "Misbuild division". I laughed out loud when he said that. So about a week later I got a call to bring it back in to verify the wrong radiator part no. I posted earlier about that visit. Then about two weeks later a card came in the mail telling me to claim my parts.

The 2 1/4 inch radiator is for a lightning [regards to f150offroad] so u got lucky, your dealer ordered the larger radiator. I just had the lightning radiator installed in my Super Crew ... 2 1/4" thick. Luckily I have an inside connection but I had to claim a radiator leak to do it. As of right now, Ford motor company is not replacing these radiators as misbuilt. Keep up your posts though, there is a lot of noise at Ford about this so soon there should be a resolution. I thnik Ford motor company is Hating the internet right now.....too bad.
Good luck and keep up the posts!!!!
Dave
NOTE: the radiator ending with GA is for the lightning so if u can get that one somehow...do it.
