Killed a Tundra
Please allow me a little fun. Life is too short not to. So if I want to poke fun at Toyota let me do so. Good for them they finally got off their **** and now offer what a lot of people want; a bigger truck. Good luck to them, they are very good at copying what others do.

Well, I just read in my local paper that 50% of the traffic fatalities this year (in my area) were due to excessive speeds. Some of the more spectacular accidents in the past 5 years have been caused by cars racing, you know, the ones where one car goes out of control and either slams into another car or a tree and everybody dies except for the driver?
When I used to drive 100+ mph, I thought I was the greatest and I was safe in the cars I had. Now that I'm older, all I can do is just shake my head in wonder that I'm still alive and I didn't hurt anybody.
I can understand the need for fun, but don't go off on somebody who's saying what needs to be said here and unless you've had professional training, you're probably a worse driver than you think.
I had no business driving over 100 mph on roads designed for 45 and 60 mph and I'm old enough and wise enough to admit that.
Lets see, an idler pulley and a grinding noise in the steering wheel, hardly piston slap, a tranny failure, or head leaks my friend, thanks for proving my point.
If you think Ford service is bad, try going to Toyota. I sold my '94 SR5 V6 4x4 at 20k miles due to 2 blowers failing and being told that they would no longer replace the blower under warranty. I recently talked with the person that bought the vehicle from me in '96. He told me that the head gasket failed at 50+k miles and they had it for 10 weeks waiting for a gasket on back order. In contrast, I've had nothing but good service from my local Ford dealership.
I appreciate good engineering as much as the next guy, irrespective of who is responsible for it. I'm fairly familiar with the Tundra, having spent many hours helping my friend install shocks, an alarm system, nerf bars etc. Yes, Toyota has done some excellent engineering on the Tundra, but until they build a real full-size truck I won't consider them as a viable alternative to Ford!!
Finally, imagine if Ford put the Navigator 32 valve head on the F-150 5.4L. Then we'd be comparing apples to apples. The standard rear gear on the F-150 is 3.55. A 4.10 gear, and the 32 valve head would result in an awesome truck and a fairer comparison. It's interesting that Toyota compared their top-of-the-line model to Ford's entry level one.
My last comment. If you're so unhappy with Ford, why not sell your truck and be happy?

I saw a drag that was even worse than the one that started this post. My dad and I beat some kid in a Ford ranger sport package. The bad part was my dad and I were in the family minivan, which is a 96 dodge caravan. That kid was really suprised. I think his daddy bought him the truck but never taught him how to use it.
Mastercraft, If the mighty tundra is sooo good why is it the least bought fullsize truck around. They're 1,000 to 1 in favor of ford.I guess more people would rather buy ford than a wanna be 3/4 size tonka toy.

The Tundra is a good "truck"? How about if I hang my 900+ pound snowplow off the front of it and we'll see just how long that POS lasts. What a joke! BTW, I drive an F-250 Super Duty 4x4 with a V-10. It's not a half size truck like a TOYota either.
One more thing, if you're nice, I might let you park that little thing UNDER my truck.

I guess the bottom line is you can fool yourselves into thinking that it's safe to race on public roads and that you're all the best and safest drivers and that you are very careful where you race. Me? I prefer to err on the conservative side.
The days of taking risks are long gone for me. With age comes common sense, wisdom, and responsibilities. When I was young and dumb, it was a different story.
Who said we were unhappy with the Fords? We use both, so that gives us the most fair way to compare them, head to head, day after day. My only complaint with the Tunrda is the arm rest is too short.
Blower fan? Man we would love to have a simple problem like that with our american trucks? 2 blower fans? Wow sounds like real lemon. I love how you guys take a little problem and way over blow it to make it sound like its compatable with something like an internal design defect.
Not a full size, sorry guys, the tundra meets or exceeds almost all the american trucks in any dimension, inside or out, including ground clearance. The Sequoia is larger inside, than both the Expo and Navigator for less money, better warranty, much better resale, and much better reliability. The only thing it gives up is a tad of tow rating, which anyone who has owned american trucks for the past 25 years knows how generous we are with tow ratings, you can chop 20-25% off all of them to get the real world safe capacity of the american trucks, especially when using an auto tranny.
See for those of us in business who use our trucks for more than a grovery getter, and dont really care about 0-60 being .1 faster than a competitor, since we all graduated high school years ago. What matters in the real world is reliability, pure and simple, does the thing work day after day and not spend all its time with Mr Goodwrench. All that plus, cost per mile, maintainence, insurance, resale and safety. The Toyotas kick everyone *** on resale, a 4 year old $ runner will still bring better than 20k.
And no, comparing a 5.4 to a 4.7 is still not a fair comparison, the 300 in the Toyota marine comes from 4.7 not 5.4. Like we said, more with less, less weight, less displacement, less noise, less trouble. Sure I would love to see the 4 valve 5.4 made available to everyone, especially since Chevy now had the 6.0 available up to 325 horses. But seeing how we cant solve the problems on a 2 valve 5.4, does that leave you much confidence in the 4 valve?
If you have only 10,000 with no problems, you have not really reached the mileage all the problems with piston slap and leaks start. We have had many go 10,20,30k with no problems, but after that....well its a different story. The rings are hardly set in yours.
Why do they not sell as many? That is easy first its not a high production vehicle like the F150, which is made in 5 different plants. Tundras are made in 1 plant in Princeton Indiana by american workers. Second they have only been in production tqo model years, 2000/2001. They also cost a little more, after all you get what you pay for. Maybe if Ford and Chevy cared a little more about quality and a little less about profit and how many they can throw together in one shift, we might not have all this mess on this board like "I got the wrong radiator, or my engine knocks! and why does my 5.4 idle like a 1920's farm tractor?" Nothing they make is a pos like some of you say, lets see, Cavalier, Cirrus, Lumina, Escort, Bronco II, Taurus, if we are gonna name pos, I bet I can name a hell of a lot more american pos than Japaneese or German.
We are just stating the facts bros, like them or not, Oh yeah before you get too ****y about the Super Duty, (which we have also) tell yourself this, "diode failure" its something you will be familiar with in the future. And I will tip you off, it has to do with your 4r100 tranny. Why dont you ask your dealer how many of them they are replacing....be careful what you ask for.

Ever since seeing the Tundra commercial on TV, (the one where the Tundra pases an F150 towing a boat), I've been looking for a Tundra.
Today with my wife driving, we found one.
He was behind us, and I had my wife pull over and let him pull along side. We nudged it and on the second nudge he hit it. He got his rear bumper to our front bumper befor my wife nailed it.
Within 100 yards we had him by 3 truck lengths.
We looked over and it was a bunch of teenagers, and the truck still had the window sticker on it.
We came to the next light and there were cars in front of us, so we couldn't do a 'hole shot', but along side of us was another F150 with a bunch of teenagers in it, and they were laughing there *** off at 'the kill' we just did.
So much for the misleading Tundra commercials!!!!

Well, working as an EMT in my area, I have pried enough people out of vehicles and followed up on the accident to see some actual numbers. Most accidents in "MY" area are due to not paying attention, not speeding, most people are good about maintaining speed limits around here. They just need to open their eyes once in a while

Hey Sprhck!
Just heard a report on the radio this morning where more states are trying to outlaw cell phones while driving. Great idea. I see too many people swerving around while yapping on those things. Let's also outlaw eating and reading (I've actually seen people reading the newspaper while going down the highway!)

I would imagine the Tundra is probably a pretty good truck. Toyota isn't in the habit of producing junk. Problem is it's ugly, can't get parts everywhere like a Ford, and I don't think they will hold up in the long haul doing real work like a domestic. I know back on the farm, the little rice trucks just don't have it, they don't last.

regarm,
I am all about outlawing cell phones. Was taking a pt. to the hospital in an ambulance once, light and sirens and air horn, had a lady in an SUV in front of me talking on the cell phone. Couldn't get around her due to narrow road with opposing traffic, even tho the opposing traffic pulled over still was not enough room. Woman sat there yapping away for a good 1/2 mile before I got an opening and went around her, and on top of that, she was only doing 30 in a 45!!!!!!!!!!!! I was livid... I wish I would have thought to get her lic plate # and sign a summons for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle..
Travis.

The 4 dr, tundra has the same room inside as a supercrew, give me a break, Yeah toyota has gone to far, you can't even open the rear doors unless the front ones are opened first. This is supposed to be a 4 door truck,It's a wanna be. I guess you and the other 6 owners went to far. You should have waited for the other 4 dr rice burner, the tacoma, atleast it has 4 real doors. Sorry but you should have bought the best built, most reliable truck bar none, FORD.
