Killed a Tundra
Mastercraft,
Lets not forget that the Tundra comes with 3:92 rear axle while the standard F150 comes with 3:08, but most have 3:55s.
The only way to get 3:73s in an F150 is with the 77oolb. package which I have.
Not to take away from your Tundra, I am sure it is a good truck and you love it as much as we love our F150s.

Then the 5.0 and me where side by side and he down shifted and floored it and my dumbass waited to floor it and he was in front me the whole time after that and then we both had to slam on are breaks because of a red light and he didn't stop in time and had to go through it going about 135+ and almost hit an car in his lane. Thank god for the good brakes on this thing. After about 10 min i see him again and i get next to him and talk about what just happend and every other second he says how much he loves my truck. He was superchared too. I didn't win that one. I know i would have been better off if i

markmizzou!!!! you must have been the guy I passed on sunday morning. You were doing 15 mph in a 50 mph zone. I thought to my self, god I hate sunday drivers. 2 hours later, I see you again and you pull right out in front of me, I had to lock up the brakes, thank god for anti lock and then you go again at 15 miles per hour in a 65 mph zone. ect ect ect....

7700sc,
Nice kill! But the Tundra commercial was misleading. They were actually going down hill. And if you looked at the face the Tundra driver had on you would know that he was scared *****less becaues his brakes had just failed.

I don't know, I see more accidents in my area due to careless drivers not stopping for red lights and cutting people off. But I guess that is typical south jersey. J/K. Well maybe not.
Racing can be done safely. It's the people that do it in the 25mph zone that are the problem. I have been known to drop the hammer once in a while. But before I do, I always make sure I am on open road and always watch the road in front of me instead of looking at the guy I am racing.

LOL JMC. Good point. You notice the people who are defendinding the Tundra's never mention their GREEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAATTT brakes. Yeah, sure, they're SUPPOSED to wobble when you hit the brakes, that's Toyota engineering for ya.

As in every "forum" (and you should all
educate yourselves on what a "forum" is
before dumping on someone who, by the
nature of forums, has the right to express
their opinions) there will be agreeing
and dissenting opinions. So I'll add a
dissenting agreement relative to public road
exhibitions of speed (and yes I'm adding
aftermarket equipment to boost the performance of my F150 4.6)... Having been
trained at Bondurant (HiPerf & Survival)
thru a third party agreement I can subscribe
to the joy of fast driving and performance.
I've been over 120 Mph on city streets and
then had to change underwear (not exactly,
but...) At any moment any number of
circumstances could have intervened to ruin
my day (any other poor driver making a
mistake, mechanical malfunction on any of
the involved vehicles, road conditions
deteriorating and on and on...) because the
response time at high speeds is too little
too late to do much, if anything. Speed is
fun, but it kills... now sitting more than
I walk or run, I was hit by a motorist who
wasn't paying attention and violated the
law. My left leg was mostly torn off, the
pelvic ring was ruptured and the pelvis was
broken in three places, my right arm was
broken, my right triceps was torn off from
it's insertion and my right biceps was
partially torn off. I suffered a herniated
disk in the low back, I had internal bleeding
from numerous organs, I have so many scars
on my body that I look like a topography map
from 30000'! And the steel that had to be
placed around my pelvis is still there (cool
going thru airport security, always wear
a big metal belt buckle so I don't have to
explain!) My left should has no cartilage
and hurts regularly. Heck, most of me hurts
daily. By the way, I was going 33 mph, the
other guy wasn't! I basically wish it were
legal to hunt that guy down and dispatch him,
but that is the price we pay for a democracy
(the last part of that word might be
crazy... the way people drive..). I'll side
with Mark. Racing is fun, exhilarating, but
too dangerous to contemplate. Even those
who have been professionally trained get
nailed, usually by those who are at the
opposite end of that spectrum. Want to race,
join a 'road race' club and have at it...

The Tundra commercial hardly compares apples to apples. Their 4.7L has four valves per cylinder and they use a much taller rear gear ... is that a fair comparison? They compared their top of the line truck to Fords entry-level truck. Pure marketing. The 4.6L has proven itself to be an excellent power plant. As for the 5.4L, the authors at WardsAuto know what they're talking about
People "drive" torque ... and in that arena the Triton remains king ... The 5.4L unit develops a wholesome 350 lb.-ft. of torque at just 2,500 rpm ... the Toyota has to hit 3,400 rpm to deliver its 315 lb.-ft. For truck engines, that’s all you have to know: the most torque available at the lowest rpm.
Let's see ... my '00 F-150 has been back to the dealer for one thing, a vibrating passenger mirror.
My friend's '00 Tundra has been back for warped rotors at 15k (which the dealership turned rather than replaced), valve noise, defective idler pulley, and a grinding noise from the steering column. The dealership took his truck for 3 days but didn't even work on it.
Turns out that the Tundra's mirrors and the Fords mirrors are made by the same manufacturer. In fact, they're the same mirror!
One final note ... have you ever sat in a Tundra? It's hardly a full size truck.

Great to hear 7700sc!
Im not trying to disregard anyones opinions, or the tragic results of one of (so, so, many of) societies ills.
This is a forum, the topics seem to revolve around the F150.
To thoes with "kills" to report, there are places here on the boards where folks will read enthusiastically. (Please, look around for those places!)
I have been curious about how the 4.7 would compete with the 4.6. Anyone?
Tom.

hey Doc, i feel your pain. I was in a very bad motorcycle crash a couple of years ago while racing my father. i had to have totoal re-constructive surgery on my lower jaw and lower teeth, shoulders moved back to where they were supposed to be, and my back still gives me problems. no one else was involved, but i do realize now that we arent invincible, contrary to what we like to believe. i still hit the gas (on my bike and truck) when the opportunity presents itself, but i know my limits, and dont push them as to endanger anyone else. but if someone does go fast, dont bash them. it wont do anything more than **** them off. the only way for someone to TRULY learn is for something bad such as a crash to hit close to home. if you can handle the speed, fine. if you cant, then dont do it. you know who you are. my .02 cents

You are on Toyota for wharped rotors? Have you owned a Ford in the past 20 years bro? especially the '87-'96? Talk about crappy rotors, sounds like your friend has a dealer problem not a defect. As for those who doubt Toyota brakes, drive one, 4 piston 4 wheel disk, dont see that on anything else but a Silverado. Ford and Dodge are both behind there. Dont get me wrong, we like our F150's and Bronco's we pull with, what we dont like is the excuses of still making 5.4's with defects almost six years in production. And then arguing over what is wrong and why its wrong. You know we might not even own any Toyotas except for Fords crappy customer service at the zone level, not the dealer level. Reguardless of who you pull for or what you like, none of the american manufactuers have any excuse in the commuincation age for bad customer service.
Lets see, an idler pulley and a grinding noise in the steering wheel, hardly piston slap, a tranny failure, or head leaks my friend, thanks for proving my point.
We laugh as our Tundras take us back to the Ford dealers for another FQR motor.
Gee, maybe this one wont knock when its cold! (2-3-4 how many does it take?) Hey try WD40, its thinner than 5w20, maybe it wont knock now.
Gosh did we get the right radiator? Rough idle? Paint coming off? Sorry factory tires? Our Toyotas dont have that problem, Can you tow anything more than a Murray Riding mower with a 4r70w tranny?
Our Tundras and Sequoias have a 4.10 rear. The 4.7 makes 240 horses, which tops both the 4.6 and the 4.8 GM, so they make more with the same or less. The 4.6 is 220 horses and about 290 on torque. The 4.7 has a 3400 torque peak, the 4.8 GM is listed at well over 4000, the 5.4 at 2300 as of '99. Sure the 5.4 is stronger, but with all the problems, who cares?
The exact same 4.7 in the Tundra makes 300 stock horses in the Toyota Ski Boat, so its got a lot more potential than what is shows right now. If you dont think they will bump this motor in the next year or so, well you dont follow the Japaneese much.
We have both, and both have certain things they do better than the other, but if you just discount the Toyota because its foreign or whatever, you dont appreciate engineering. Same way someone who owns a Firehwawk Firebird kinda laughs at a BMW 330i. Sure the Tundra is not perfect, hell its their first full size truck, Ford only had a 50 year head start. But for a completely new model, Sequoia included, they are pretty damn good. If you dont think the Sequoia has 10x better build quality than a Expo or Tahoe, keep one for about 3 years. I'd lay money this one wont rattle like the Expo or drop trannys like the Tahoe.
See here is the rub, this board is full of people with the same problems over and over, piston slap, head oil leaks, trannys, so its not uncommon. If you dont believe that, spend some time at your local dealers service department. We also own Volvos, does that count? Since Ford has owned Volvo since 1998? (BTW their quality has dropped substancially since Ford took over, and your next Taurus will be the current C60) So your 2003-2004 Taurus will be the old Volvo 850 (introduced in 1992), which makes that chassis only 13 years old when the american get it.
