Life expectancy for the Triton
I am just wondering how long I can expect my Triton to last? Any thoughts? It is a 98 4.6 with 61,000 miles. ANY REPLIES would be appreciated.

I totatly agree with you Tony with a Ford engine you could get 300,000 easily . Work truck 93 I6 195,000 miles runs like a charm. Will easily get 250,000 and probaly 300,000. I say that to be conservative because workers before me beat the s*** out of this truck but it is BUILT FORD TOUGH.

It depends on what kind of maintenance and the driving habits of the first owner. If they took care of it and you do likewise, you should easily expect the longevity as expressed by the previous posts. CHANGE YOUR OIL REGULARLY using a quality oil and filter. Everyone will tell you their version of what oil/filter combo is best......but the bottom line is regular changes. Best of luck and congrats on a great truck!

If you take good care of it..it should easily see close to 200,000 miles or more. It should be around longer than the rest of the truck!

I am glad to hear this. I heard that the Triton design was supposed to ensure a long life. I just wanted to hear it from some fellow Ford guys. I do change my oil regularly and I use synthetic oil (like I have in my past vehicles). I feel better now!!!

Question is:
What WON'T outlast the engine??
Trans?
Diffs?
Body?
Firestone tires might outlast the engine... Buy them once and they replace themselves after every 60,000 miles!!
It ALL comes down to maintenance! Except for the body. If you drive a lot of bumpy or dirt roads forget it! If you live where you get a lot of snow and the truck gets lots of salt and sand , FORGET IT!

My Co. vehicle: 1997 F-150 w/ 4.6L Windsor is pushing 160,000 miles strong. Engine has had knock @ start-up (cold) since 44,000 miles. Let me tell you, this vehicle get's worked hard, abused by many different drivers & sometimes see's 8,000 to 10,000 miles between oil changes. When we ordered this truck, a Manager asked me how many trouble-free miles I thought we would get? I replied 150,000 miles. Now, I believe, we may see 300,000 miles with proper maintenance. Egine had tune-up by professional @ 102,00 miles (1/1999). Professional ford mechanic stated at the time--this engine is "as good as new". Good Luck! Gearmanx17

120,500 miles, and running strong. Just had the plugs and wires replaced on Friday - along with a few other items, runs like a top. Still doesn't leak a drop of oil, or use a drop of oil. I run 3000 miles between oil changes.
Parts that won't make it - Outer tie rods and ends - recent experience talking here. Gotta love the start of pothole season .
Just keep up on the regular maintinence and you'll do just fine.
