Depends on Injector Performance

I agree that they should last 200,000 miles plus..unless your injectors fail and dump raw fuel in the cylinder and cause hyperlock and engine failure....yes my 2005 is being replaced at 45,000 under warranty...

All with 2005 should get their injectors checked....as many are faulty....

agreed!........I have seen over 600,000 on a few vehicles in the same fleet with 4.6's.
IMO.....the 5.4 seems just as bullit proof.
There are certainly things that will have to be fixed.......but if you are talking about the engine actually wearing out due to age/miles..........a long, long and really long time my friend.

Right! 256,000 miles and my compresion numbers haven't changed since 2002. I looked at my valves before installing headers - No carbon build up, they were a little white tho, but that's normal from what I hear.

My '97 F-150 4.6 has 326,000 miles. Nothing has been done to the engine other than plugs 3 times and wires once. Original belt was on for 190,000 miles, looked good but changed it for sport. The alternator needed bearings at 170,000 miles and brushes at 300,000 miles. It uses about a quart of oil every 1200 miles. It currently has a blown head gasket and was loosing coolant into a combustion chamber. I put in some GM seal tabs in the radiator, and it's good now. I'm not going to pull heads off a 300,000 mile engine. Who knows what else I'll find in there and what it'll cost to fix. I'm waiting 'till something really goes wrong, then I'll replace the engine.

I change the oil (Castrol Syntech 5-50) every 6,000-7,000 miles. Most Tritons seem to last a loong time. Occasionally, one goes bad early, but lots last the life of the truck. Check the miles on this. to see how long these engines can last.

I have 126000 miles on mine. The only thing I have changed since I have had it is the oil and a starter.

When I worked at Romeo engine plant Dyno we would purchase engines from Taxi companies that had over 300,000 miles on them and were still running good. We would disassemble them, measure and inspect the components. It was amazing how new the parts would measure and look. You have to remember that the mileage is actual driving time. This is not even considering sitting at idle waiting for people etc. I know there is a lot of discussion here on the correct oil etc. But the truth is if you use SAE certified oil 5w-20, 5w-30, or even 10w-30 ( I know some are going to freak over the 10w-30w) and a good filter you will be fine. The important thing is to change the oil and filter at regular intervals. There are no guarantees on anything mechanical but regular maintainence goes a long way to insure a trouble free drivetrain.

My dad has a 2wd 98 4.6 f 150 with over 180,000 and it burns no oil and runs great, I keep on telling him to change the trans oil but no dice. We've got a 2001 with a blower and other suff pushing over 10#'s of boost on our 80,000 5.4 4wd f150 and I feel it runs like new, no unusual internal sounds, and no oil consumed. I plan on over 200K with the blower.

My 2000 5.4 has 199,000 miles and the original motor, trans, t-case, diffs, water pump, fuel pump, alternator, starter, power steering, a/c, serpentine belt, etc.

The only thing that has been gone through was the front end steering and it was pretty much an entire overhaul of the front end at ~125,000 miles. I replaced the brakes a few times, u joints at 175,000 miles, axle seal at 190,000 and one blown spark plug at 191,000 miles.
