Thumbs up For all who complain about Ford quality

Not to put down anyones legitimate complaint..... however, if you want to feel better about your truck go over to the NHTSA site and read the complaings on the 2000 Chevy Silverado, and 2000 GMC Sierra. Geez

Just a few stats:
Complaints on 2000 Silverados: 205
Complaints on 2000 Sierras: 84
Complaints on F150's: 78

The new GM trucks are having serious brake failure problems, trucks are catching on fire sitting in the driveway (not running), severe vibration problems from everywhere, engines that stall or lose power for no reason, transmission failures, seatbelt failures....... you name it.

I know our trucks aren't perfect, but I can sure see why Consumer reports cannot recommend the new GM trucks, no matter how much they may like them.

Does make for interesting reading.

94LightningGal,
Good find. Man I just looked at it. And WE think our trucks have problems. I also looked up Chevy and GMC trucks. It was a good reminder why I have always driven a Ford. To be fair I did research the F150 and it as you know it wasn't even close. Chevy wins hands down. Good for them they finally out did the FORD. (In problems) he he he he

You're all correct - the fact that F150's & Ford trucks have been the top selling vehicle for 22 years & top selling truck for 14 means it's more than just a pretty truck! NO OTHER AUTO MAKER cam make the same claims! I just tell Chevy drivers that Chevy's are good for making Ford's look even better which isn't easy to do when they are already outstanding!

I'm sorry, but hearing about GM's problems doesn't make me feel any better. I love, my truck and I have been a devoted Ford fan for years, but I can no longer brag about my Truck being built Ford Tough. I've had too many problems.
*Leaky rear window..replaced three times.
*Bad paint from the factory.
*Vibration at 2200 RPM that dealer says is "normal".
*Oil leak on the passenger side head-gasket.
*Door cracks.

And, I've only got 23,000 miles on it!
The sad thing is that I'm not the only one with these problems. Nearly everyone I know that has one of these later model F-150's has had some type of major problem, mainly the door crack syndrome.

That being said, I'm not making a case for buying another brand of truck, I just wish that my preferred brand didn't have so many problems with quality! I can no longer honestly brag about the quality of my truck. That hurts.

Hi MarkS. Maybe you were unlucky? I'm on my second late model F-150. Bought the first one in March of '96 and purchased the Harley-Davidson edition this year. Neither has had a single problem. Neither ever went back to the dealer for a anything. Zero defects. Both were perfect as far as fit and finish, both drove like a dream and were (and is) rock solid.

Now you know at least one person who hasn't had any major problems.

(As an aside, I have several friends who have F-150s, and they, too, have basically no problems included no door cracks.)

Question

I just have to ask what is the point of these posts against Ford's? Are we all supposed to get rid of our trucks?
I happen to be extremely happy with my truck & should a problem occur I will deal with it as best I can.
I don't go to Chevy/Dodge sites & trash their choice of vehicles & I don't especially appreciate it happening here. I feel bad for anyone who has problems but my patience runs thin with this kind of posting.
Ford trcuks have been the best selling OVERALL vehicle for 22 years & the best selling TRUCK for 14 or 15 years so that many people can't be wrong or unhappy.
Good luck with your truck - hope that all the problems we hear about Chevy/GMC trucks doesn't happen to you. Thanks for listening.

Wait a minute, hold back the flames!

I'm not trashing Ford or F-150's. I'm stating that the quality of my and my friends' F-150's is sub-par.

I had a 1983 Mustang and it never went back to the dealer. Sold it after 100,000 miles. Excellent car.

I had a 1993 Ranger it also never went to the dealer for anything except for a recalled parking brake. In fact, the person I sold it to still drives it and has had zero problems.

I had a 1994 Explorer. No problems, sold it with 160,000 miles no major problems either!

The point is, lets not trash other brands when the brand we purchased also has it's share of problems. BTW, the NHTSA site only lists SAFETY related problems, not quality related issues. That being said, I'm glad I drive a Ford because its safer than other trucks.

Cowlady, I'm sorry if you get offended easily, but I never suggested that anyone not buy a Ford, the fact is I will probably buy another Ford as my next Truck. And I agree, I don't go to Chevy/Dodge sites and trash their trucks, and I certainly don't appreciate a non-Ford owner trashing our trucks either. BUT that is comparing apple to oranges. First, I did not trash our trucks. I pointed out some of the common flaws. Second, since I AM a Ford F-150 owner, I don't think it is innapropriate to bring up isssues that I have with my truck.
---
Now that I have reread my other post, I was whining a little bit, but please understand. When you spend close to $30,000 on a truck, it had better be built right, or fixed without a hassle. I have had neither. Even going to different dealerships for service hasn't helped either.
---

Best wishes and good luck with your trucks. I sincerely hope that I was just one of the unlucky ones.

Mark - I am sorry! It wasn't you that I was talking about. In another post a former Ford "fanatic" posted some really angry remarks about her Ford & then proceeded to brag about recently buying 2 Chevy's - specifically a Vette & a Silverado. This NEW Chevy owner is now a DIE HARD Chevy loyalist! That's fine! Many people who buy their first Ford's are convinced immediately that they made the right decision - I have no problem with that. What did bother me was how this new Chevy owner had to come back here & flame all Ford's & their owners. Hence my comment about not going to Chevy/Dodge sites & "rubbing their noses" in owning a different truck! I certainly did not mean you! I take no offense when any Ford owner posts problems they have here - that's what this board is for. We have all helped each other thru various situations & I appreciate this exchange!
This new Chevy owner has also called Ford employess & dealers schmucks! That was uncalled for. I make no attempt to hide my dislike of Chevy's but I have never called any Chevy owner/dealer/employee any names.
Please accept my apoplogy if I made you think I was talking about you. I admire your honest post about the problems you are having & I hope that you can get some suggestions here that will help. I also admire you for not calling people names & for sticking with the truck. It would be understandable if you chose to switch but I hope you get everything fixed to your satisfaction instead.
Good luck - I hope you can accept my apology.
If you want to read the post which upset me it's under "Quality is Job #1" & was called "Fords Blow". I should have probably put my post there but I'd forgotten where it was & when I saw this topic title decided to reply here. Hope this helps.

Cowlady, thanks for the explanation. I am kinda touchy I guess. Anyhow, I appreciate your apology, and absolutely no hard feelings whatsoever.

On a lighter note, a coworker has a 2000 GMC Z71, and his has been in the shop more than mine!

94LightningGal:

Thanks for doing the work for the people like myself who are considering a different truck. After reading that, GM is sure out. I must say that I've test driven the new Tahoe, and it doesn't compare to the Expedition, in my opinion. The Ford is built much better, if they can only solve some of there common problems!

If your satisfied with buying a crappy truck which just does not happen to be as crappy as the others then I guess you'll be happy. I've had dealings with Chevy/Gm customer service and they rate much better (I've had better success) than FoMoCo. At Least they honestly attempt to fix the problem and satisfy the customer. FoMoCo favorite fix is "that's normal"

cowlady it should be the best selling truck for over 22 years and best selling vehicle for 18 years if the info I read a few months ago is correct.
