missing, stumbling 5.4
I have not replaced plugs yet (planning on next week). Truck started running really rough today and is now displaying p0340. Camshaft position sensor bank 1. Bought a new sensor ($13). Will let ya'll know if that helps.
Broken plug!!! no 1 cylender, the threaded portion of the plug came out and left the entire porcelin piece in there. It does not look like the lisle tool will help with this. Any ideas?
Ford engineering spark plug design...American ingenuity at its worst
Lisle Manufacturing part number 65600...American ingenuity at its best
Shop vac, duct tape, and weed eater fuel line to remove broken pieces of porcelin from #1 cylender...Redneck ingenuity at its best!
My problems seem to be solved for the most part. The computer seems to be searching for the right fuel mixture at idle, but I am hoping that is because it has been running so long with fouled plugs. Any thoughts?

Nope. thought I had bought champion one piece. Turns out 84,000 miles of memory served me wrong. They were Autolite platinum two piece.
So turns out, I still have a problem. OK, here is a recap for everyone. Runs rough at idle, and rough at low RPM. Seems to run fine while cruising. coded lean condition bank 1, replaced o2 sensor. Then coded cam sensor bank 1. replaced. still rough. replaced spark plugs (needed it anyhow), replaced fuel filter (needed it anyhow), cleaned MAF sensor. I still have the same problem, running rough at idle and low rpm (up to about 1700). It is now throwing no codes, and gas mileage has plunged from 16ish to 13ish.

Following this thread...sounds like my truck but with the 2V 5.4 engine.
About to change COPs again but have no codes at all to help. Planning to swap a couple around once I get a code but it's been about three months now with no code and lousy mileage...
I read somewhere here that #4 COP was most likely to fail (relationship to heater hose??) so I'm wondering if maybe I should change that one out for a known good one?
Good luck to you!

Still idles very rough and gas milage still in the dirt. I had to renew my inspection sticker, and it passed the emissions test. I know that they check for codes and stick a sniffer in the tail pipe. I expected it to fail emissions due to it running so rough at idle, but it passed. what gives? Any ideas?
Sounds like either the EGR valve is hanging open.
Engine harness has come into contact with he AC accumulator.
Bad cats.
Passing Emissions means nothing, other than you passed and you don't have to deal with yet another problem.
So,-
It may be a combination of fails going on now. Rough, up to 1700 rpms ? Yea that's about cruising speed. Makes me think it's the EGR valve itself. Since that is WHEN they are suppose to open via program.

glc,
can you elaborate more on the egr on the 2004+ 5.4 motors please. I was under the impression that the 3v 5.4 motors did not have an egr valve. Even the haynes manual says it doesn't(not that means anything though) I have had similar issues at one point in time and would have said it was an egr problem also but couldn't find one. Thanks.

I called the local Ford House, and he looked up my VIN. No EGR system on the 3-valve 5.4L
