2001 5.4 power problem

My 2001 Supercrew 5.4 has been acting up in the last 2 months, and today just stopped. So as I'm driving it started to sputter and when you would hit the gas it would die out and backfire. Finally today it did the same thing and then wouldn't turn on(would crank but not start). When the tow truck arrived I was able to start it again but still spuddering. When I got it home I took out the mass flow meter and cleaned it, now it starts right up sounds good but when I drive it it drives fine till I get on it. When I hit the gas hard it revs, sputters and doesn't go anywere. Any Ideas? Maybe a bad mass flow? I've installed new Accel coils a little while back so don't think its a coil problem.

Those coils are junk, - you should have purchased these -

What type of plugs are you running ?

So nothing is going on with the check engine light ? Is it on or does it blink/then off when your have these problems ?

If I remember right I purchased motorcraft plugs but it hasn't even been 8 months since I replaced them, and no the light doesn't come on at all and when I bring it to the outparts store and get the comp scanned it says theres nothing wrong.

No codes are coming up at all, and I run mid grade fuel always.

OK so I changed the fuel filter as well as the PCV and drove 100% better for like 15 20 mins. then started again but this time with out the sputter just the loss of power. The truck revs up when I push the gas but doesn't go anywere, I scanned it again and no codes. When I pulled the fuel filter the 1st time it was nasty and brown color, so I'm woundering if I have bad gas it have to run it through?

I've Merged Your Threads

OK, Brandy - Please do not start multiple threads on the same subject. I've deleted the one you started in the other forum and merged the two you started here. And, I've deleted all the comments by other members not to start multiple threads just to clean things up.

I'm assuming you started all three of the threads before reading the comments about it from people who are trying to help you. So, no harm, no foul. But it DOES waste people's time working through multiple posts and increases the chance of mis-communication, since the information gets scattered all over the landscape.

Welcome to the site, and I hope your problem gets sorted out quickly.

- Jack

I did all that but I think its my fuel pump because I put a psi gauge on it now thats its doing the same problem again and all it shows is 3psi at the fuel rail when it should be around 32-34 and as I crank the motor the psi doesnt change from3 or 5psi. As well as I had a friend turn the key as I was under the truck and didn't hear the fuel pump activate or humm like they usally do.
