Are they failing causing drivability issues or are they just making noise? There is a difference. Granted no one likes a noise but just a noise is not a indicator of mechanical or pending mechanical failure on these.

5w20 is the recommended grade.

There seem to be no power loss issues related to the knock. I cant tell any difference in drive ability. But the knock is very obvious. But like i stated before, for only around 15 seconds. As far as the oil issue.. i believe my manual states to use 5w30. And I will be switching to motor craft filters on the next oil change. But im still gonna stay away from synthetics with my mileage..

Thanks everyone

I would only use 5w20 in northern climates....or the north pole Down south where it's hot most of the year 5w30 works perfect.

Use what you want, but Ford has updated the specs, and 5w20 is now the recommended grade in all Tritons and 4.2's. I know your manual says 5w30, but that has been superseded.
