2002 2wd motor swap...4.6 for which 5.4?

I am starting to look into possible motor swaps as I now have over 120K on my truck and would like to gain some more power as my 4.6 is already tuned intake and exhaust. My question is how much better is the NAVI 4V 5.4 vs the normal 2V 5.4? I would love to do a lightning swap but doubt I will be able to find one for a decent price. My other questions are:

my new 4r70w will bolt up to either but what about the torque converter? would love a 4r100 but that means the price jumps up more and a new computer.

My new FORD reman tranny has another 80K warranty will dropping a 5.4 in front of it void that?

I really dont have any complaints with my 4.6 BUT to those that have already swapped their 4.6 for a 5.4 - is it way better? like totally different truck? I didnt realize the 5.4 makes peak tq @ 2500 while the 4.6 is above 4k I think so it should def tow better and do better with my oversize tires.

I will probably wait until I actually have an issue with my motor BUT I had a little scare last week with a misfire that turned out to be just a loose connection on the #4 COP but I just want to plan ahead and start looking for a deal on the motor

What do I need other than a custom tune (already have troyer xcal) and the motor? THANKS

YES, you will need your 4.6 ECM tuned for the larger motor

as far as more work, both the 4 valve and 2 valve will need a litle bit to replace your 4.6

you can run your 4.6 converter behind a 5.4 if you have an 8 bolt flywheel (but it's not recomended), JMC is the man to talk to about the swap

there's a guy who swapped a procharged 4.6 for a navigator 5.4 in his expedition and drove it N/A for a little while and said it was way better

the v10 swap is very cool and Im impressed that guy made everything work, but it is a way bigger project than I am looking for. From all the searching I have done it seems like a 5.4 is almost a drop in swap with a custom tune and probably a 5.4L converter because I think the stall or mulitplier number is too much or something?

Anyway Id like to start looking for a good deal on a 5.4L but also would like to know exactly what else I need so I can figure out the budget and try and put everything I need together.

Anybody know how much more power the navi 4V has then the normal 2V? I dont think I will do a whole lot more than my intake, tuning, and a better exhaust setup but obviously looking for the most power I can get.

the navi 32 valve 5.4 made more horsepower but less torque

look for a PI 2 valve 5.4 port and polish your TB elbow, run mild cams, 24# injectors, stokc maf an fuel pump, a custom tune long tube headers, a good exhaust a performance torque converter and a shift kit and you'll htink you have a brand new truck

you think that would be a better setup for a mildly lifted truck that does some towing? What do you think that setup would make HP / TQ wise at the wheels? What cams would you reccomend and who makes a good performance torque converter? Would the tc affect towing ability? As far as a shift kit is it necessary or can I just use my xcal? I have seen the valve bodies and stuff but Im pretty sure that would completely void the warranty on my trans.

is there any specific year 5.4L that will go into my 2002 better than others (wiring or other issues). Also any idea what is a good price to pay for a used 5.4L?

all the 5.4 2v's are about the same differences being the heads. 99-03 had pi heads which would be your best bet. 97-98 didnt have the pi heads and didnt perform as well as the pi engine(stock for stock). i would try to find a pi 5.4 2v. some 03's(and the 04 heritage 5.4) had different heads that had more threads for the spark plugs, so if you get a hold of an 03 make sure you get the right plugs.

it doesnt matter, the motors were practically the same except for the spark plug threads in some of the 03's. either way the computer will have to be tuned for the engine or you could get the 5.4 computer as long as it goes to the tranny that you use.

I would LOVE to drop any of those in but they are a little more money than Im looking to spend, not to mention I dont think my 4r70w would have a chance so theres a few more thousand to build it up or swap in a 4r100. I think at this point a later model 5.4L with lower miles and basic mods is gonna be the way to go...and maybe stick a sc on that down the road

you can build a 4r75 and have it modified to operate behind the 4r70 ecm for a couple grand

what would you guys run for mild cams? Comp cams maybe? best place to buy?

I havent heard much about performance torque converters...who makes them and any idea on cost?

As far as headers I know from reading on here that long tubes are the only way to go but what about brands? I remember reading about some called OBX's? and also looked at a set of pacesetters a while back for my 4.6. What have you guys had the best results with and what seems to be the best bang for the buck?

Also curious to see what you guys think a good price is for a used 2V 5.4L I would think they should be relatively cheap as they arent really special and can come out of several vehicles right? Ive heard guys getting them as cheap as $500 but I would think anywhere around 1K give or take a couple hundred. Anything to look for as far as the condition of the motor other than a compression check?

Im trying to do all the research on the parts and figure out what the total cost will probably cost for everything so I get the project going!

for a 5.4 the OBX headers are the best bang for the buck
