Well well markho, you're not the smarty pants you thought you were.
If you haven't seen my recent post of changing out bad lash adjusters go ahead and look it up. Its a short instructional on how to do this process, which I undertook, successfully, well not exactly.
I got all the parts slapped back together with new tappets from Ford, and guess what happened? I started the truck up, it was purring for a minute or so, then tap....tap....tap, tap, tap tap, tap.....SAME F#$#$% SOUND AS BEFORE!!!! I felt sick.
I proceeded to calmly wash my hands, sit out in the yard with a 6pack of beer and proceeded to get royally drunk listening to very depressing music.
THis is what I have done so far:
Replaced w/ all Motocraft Brand (except Battery)
Driver's side bank of Lash Adjusters
PCV Vlave
Spark Plugs
Battery
THis is what happens. I start the truck, its quiet for a minute until the temp increases and the idle goes from 1k revolutions to 500 revolutions. Somewhere in between the tapping begins. If I hit the gas the tapping increases with the revs, but not exactly in sync with the revs. Any insight would be appreciated before I drive the truck off the cliff.

How would I go by checking for this? At the exhaust manifolds? My muffler broke off last year. I was going to fix it before inspection, could there be a relation?
I used a piece of hose the last time, and could have sworn that the noise was coming from the driver's side valve cover near the front end of the motor, right under the power steering reservoir near the timing chain....hmmm...
Would the timing chain tensioners make this type of noise? I would think that it would occur as soon as I started the engine up and persist through the warm-up right? The sound DOES happen at start-up but ends quickly, and then the motor warms up and idles down to 500rpm and then starts ticking.

Or a long piece of round stock, that works too. - Just plug it into that receptacal on either side of your skull.

Just the idea of pouring anything in your butt is insane, but they did it on jack *** and am sure many other not so intelligent people have imitated the same.

If you didn't see the episode, a dude gives himself alcohol poisoning while pouring beer into his anus using a tube. Evidently the alcohol passes directly into the blood stream with out being filtered through the kidneys. You are drunk with in minutes and if you decide to pour enough in your butt, you die.....

Uhm I have no idea if this is what your truck is doing. But one of my buddies has a s10 and his truck has this clacking sound all the time. You could hear it really bad on the inside.. kinda like a piece of rubber hitting on something as it was spinning around. Thats just about the only way I can explain the sound. Well come to find out he has a lifter problem. So after spending a ton of money replacing parts... he went and bought this lucas cleaner(not sure on which one) but it says on the bottle that when you put in with your oil that it frees stuck lifters. He used it once and you could not hear the sound anywhere near as loud. By the time he finished the bottle you couldnt have heard the truck until he was right up next to you(he did not have an exhaust).

I'd have to hear it and find the source. Not much else you can do until that's done.
