Is that normal? Not sure if mine does that. What should it do normally? The wiz kid mechanic around the corner looked at my oil pressure gauge and said it looked good.

No muffler on there. I planned on it being the last thing to fix after all this is over. My neighbor who is a wiz and a ford enthusiast thinks it could be the rod bearings, but still suggests to get it to a dealership for their diagnosis. He was showing me an engine block from a mustang. He said it was ford's hardest metal used in blocks. He proceeded to show me how to change the crankshaft bearings. Looked easier than the lash adjuster job i pulled off.

Yea that's normal @ cold start on both trucks running a Motorcraft oil filter or one with an anti drain back valve. If you run a Fram filter in one of these, - it's a slow death, that's why their called the "Orange can of death" lol.

The guage is more of just an idiot gauge and not a very good one, but it shows reaction time. - how fast the pump builds pressure.

Like Shane1 said, you can get a true oil pressure test. I've also heard exhaust leaks sound like an internal problem as well. I have to say, that does sound like a rod to me. Can't say for sure from here.

I don't have a motocraft filter on it, but I did purchase one. When the noise first appeared I went and got an oil change with Rotella in hand. I also had a quart of lucas . The mech at the exxon station was like "I have something heavier for poor *** sombitches like you." The oil weight was like 50w. So I have the 50w, lucas oil, and a no-name filter in there, but understand it is not the original cause of the noise. It was a response to it. It did quiet it down somewhat. I'm going to drain her and change the oil filter today.

LOL. Another Einstein at a gas station..... lash adjusters are designed to work with multi vis oils - 5w30 - 10w30 - it is critical. I would drain it real good and follow the instruction given here for further diagnosis.

Exactly.

Mannn, unbelievable lol

Here's another good quote. This ones from Labnerd -

"The Triton engines need oil fast at the cams and that's why the spec calls for a 5w oil for cold start up."

You HAVE TO run a good oil filter. - Motorcraft, WIX, Napa Gold (examples) which are most likley the more common good ones.

BTW- I wouldn't use any additives. I would want to flush it personally, -then run a blend, but. Welll , try the right stuff first and see what happens.

Yes especially if you are running 50W oil. It will take a while to get where it needs to go and the chain tensioner is hydraulic.

That's actually the recommended weight from the manufacturer for your model.
