Smile It must be true love

No one can ever doubt how much i love my f-150 after spending 22 hrs removeing all 8 broken spark plugs. First 5 came out with the glue the pin in the extracter kit from snap on but the last 3 the loc tite would not take, i think it has something to do with the fact the first 5 had the electrode stay in with the porcelin ( removed with looooong skinny pliers) but the last 3 the electrode came out with the hex i think it was fouled inbetween the electrode and porcelin. So i went shopping and found the lisle kit that pushes the porcelin down enough to thread the sheild and extract. so all in all
$135 for lisle kit
borrowed snap on kit
94$ for plugs
and a weekend of my life i will never get back

Still cheaper than the dealer
but i do love my truck

good job. those plugs suck to replace. so all 8 of yours broke? how many miles were there on your plugs? did you put the antiseize on the new plugs?

wow.... in that time I could have

taken my intake off
changed each plug, taking sips of iced tea in between each
Compression tested each cylinder
cleaned threads
took a nap
washed the cat
installed newly gapped plugs
ported the intake
painted it lime green for added HP
wake up next morning and take my time putting it all back together... LOLZZZ

What is the deal with the 3V plugs? I hear they are a 2 piece design???

yup they are 2 piece plugs. the ground sleeve is attached to the spark plug and ends up detaching from it when you try to pull them out.

Did you follow the TSB to remove the plugs, or did you just start unscrewing them?

The kit Matco has works even better than the ones that Ford sent us. Last time I changed plugs, I said **** it and used my 3/8 impact (after breaking them loose first). Only one that broke was #8 and I couldn't get the impact back there real good. I think the "impacting" from the gun actually helps. It's like this, either they break, or they don't. Might as well try it.

Damn - either they were in there for over 100k or you use some pretty nasty gas.
