What could this mystery harness hanging off my truck be??

OK, new owner here a 2001 F150 - 5.4, 4x4, Flareside

But I am giving it the once over and winterizing it, but have been stumped by this wire harness that the previous owner couldn't figure out where it goes either...

It is in the same "harness bundle" as my drivers side foglight, and now hangs in my drivers side wheel well. It has a push pin to plug into somewhere, but the problem is, there is nowhere to plug it...or to connect it too another harness. Unless I'm blind. Hmmm..

help??!

Thanks so much!

Maybe it's for more fog lights?

Could it possibly be the external temp sensor wire, I think it routes somewhere around there.

It looks like an aftermarket light kit for high intensety fog lights was installed. It uses its own relays and attaches to the main bus or battery for power. The on an off uses one of the old fog light connections to activate the relays and the other side is just tied up. But without looking at the wiring I could be wrong.

I think its some kind of sensor, isnt that one of those plastic push in type retainers? I think there is something simmilar behind my grill mounted to a support bracket in front of the rad.

Doesn't look aftermarket at all to me, unless the guy installing it was a pro - look at the wiring.

Just about HAS to go up to something on the left hand side, possibly in front of the radiator. My guess is an outside temperature sensor too. Are you supposed to see the outside temperature on your dash?

after doing some heavy-duty googling...and i spent 2 hours before this, I think I found it!

It's a loose DRL resistor harness! Plugs into a model to link the wires - so that DRL's can run. No DRL's on this truck though...

The item hanging is factory but the plug in the fog light looks aftermarket. I installed a light kit on my X and how I described above is how it was installed. Many people install bright bulbs but the wiring can not hold the higher current load. The wiring kit resolves that issue.

I am glad you found what you needed
