Flan I have the same problem. I moved from Long Beach CA to Denver pulling a 6x12 uhaul and I crawled up vail pass and went thruogh the eisenhower tunnel at 10mph. Ive tryed everything (cleaning this and that) went to ford and the only thing that seems to work a little better is the high octane gas from the mom and pop gas stations. I do plan on geting a tuner aventuly when the wife lets me

Do you have any idea what your uhaul weighed on that trip? I'm not familiar with Vail Pass or the Eisenhower tunnel, but I'm guessing they might be at or near 10,000 ft?

As I said in an earlier post on this thread, I pulled my 3600# trailer over Monarch and Red Mountain Passes - both are above 11,000 feet. I was able to maintain 60-65 mph in the climb when the road was straight enough, and I passed all the trucks and other RVs. I'm a bit puzzled that your truck, even with a stock tune could not do better. Heck, before I got the f150, I pulled the same trailer over the same passes with a Nissan Frontier 6-cyl 4x4 and could maintain 20-25 mph - but I was in 1st gear all the way and very near redline rpm. That's when I decided I needed a bigger truck.

What's your gearing and tire size? That may be doing you in. A combination of a low gear ratio and a big tire will make it hard to tow anything.

- Yea , I know my light works under the hood, It goes out upon disconnect; like a switch. But! Unfortunately, that does not erase the KAM in this model. Neither does the headlight trick. I can pull BOTH PCM fuses after the Neg is disconnected; reconnect everything and that doesn't erase the KAM..

It's either wait 15 minutes or bring the Neg over to the Pos side for me.

BTW - The hood light comes apart very easily. They corrode inside the connector. The case splits revealing the innards. You have to be careful when you remove from the hood tho, the fastener likes to break off.

a BIG 10-4. I own a 98 and I have the same problem when I spend time in Colorado. Just a simple battery pull and 15 mins later problem solved. MAF will help regardless.

Sooo leave the battery undone for 15 mins? is that what your saying? Or is touching the neg to the pos terminal another solution was that what I read?

Interesting - Mine's "stock" too, with the exception of the factory tow option and a Gryphon programmer running a towing tune. What really surprised me was your description of the towing performance over Vail Pass, which is at 10,666 ft (I just looked it up). Your truck was acting more like my old Nissan Frontier instead of an f150. But, if your trailer was in the 6-7000# range, that would explain it.

I believe the "rebooting" they're talking about refers to the PCM. Disconnecting the battery and leaving it disconnected for a while will cause the PCM to forget everything it learned while you were living at sea level. When you reconnect everything again, the PCM will reformulate a new strategy that might give you better performance at the altitude you're driving. It's worth a shot - won't hurt anything.

Yea, I understand where you're coming from. But furniture, clothing, household appliances, etc., are not really too heavy. Boxes of books are and so are "rock collections".

I've done a lot of moves since I spent 20 years in the Air Force. One of the things movers would tell me is that they'd never max out on weight in a household move, but they'd "cube" out (they'd run out of space before reaching their weight limit). I'd be just about willing to bet your 6x12 trailer was not more than 5000#, and was probably less. It should have been well within the tow limit of your truck.

Is it possible your engine is a 4.6L? That might explain the poor towing performance too.

- Flan, just forget about everthing else you read and disconnect that sucker for 15 -20 minutes. You'll be golden.
