This is about economics.

I've got an 06 Navigator which has a range of 320 miles on a $110 tank of gas.

The hybrid has a range of 548 miles on a $45 tank of gas.

At $4 a gallon, we (hippies) think its stupid to drive our 2.5 ton vehicles to get a sack of groceries.
So that makes us bad?

Look at it as if all the stupid hippies are doing you a favor by making sure there's enough fuel for you to drive your 2.5 ton truck to the grocery store.

I'm really amazed at number of people who don't think further than their nose.

I'm guessing when gas prices hit $5-$8 you'll be suggesting to ford to re-introduce the little wind vents on the driver and passenger doors, that used to be there before a/c. Being you won't be able to run your a/c

I drove my hybrid on its first highway trip from Houston to New Orleans a couple of weeks ago.. 375 miles in 4.76 hours and consumed 9.2 gallons. I averaged 79 mph and got 40 mpg. I was the fastest thing on I-10, nothing passed me. All the slow *** SUVs and pickups were all in 55-65mph convoys and a lot of them had their windows down.

It must be hell having to drive in the slow lane..
Wow.... First you misread my post, then assumed, and through the entire post showed your lack of knowledge. Good job bud !

I never said my truck is my DD, it is NOT. I use it as a tow vehicle, sometimes a nice weekend driver, but thats about it. Last time I checked, I couldn't tow a trailer/buggy with a Prius.
I also own a Mercedes 300E (I work on em, figure I should own one) along with a VW Golf (gotta be 30mpgs or more, don't keep track).

I never stated ANYONE in this thread said ANYTHING about the enviroment yuppie. I was simply stating, many people have this false idea that by using a hybrid they are saving the enviroment by using less fuel. Well, you might be using less fuel, but lets talk when all these Prius cars have been out for over 10 years, the batteries are no longer good, we simply do not have the infastructure setup to recycle that amount of batteries. Also, the massive amount of nickel being taken from earth for you to get better MPG is getting to become a big topic.

Yup, I drive the slow lane, about the flow of traffic which is generally 60 mph no matter what car I drive. Are you in a hurry to die ? I get better gas mileage and I'm being safer. Flying down the highway at damn near 80MPH is just asking for something to happen (god forbid) . What if a front tire blew out ? At 80 ? You are not going to stay in control. Going from 80-0 is MUCH harder on your body vs. 55/60-0. Trust me. Live and learn bud !

Plus, like everyone says, I will gladly pay more, to not drive such a POS. Have you had to replace a head light yet ? or a tail ? Ya, wait til that shocker comes to you ! REDICULOUS !!! (BTW: I work on Prius's quite often on the side. Many shops are afraid of the high voltage. We aren't and I get to see just how "high of quality" they are and how expensive the POS is)

As a side note: Going down the highway with your windows open causes enough drag to force you into WORSE MPG's vs. windows up and A/C running. Just an FYI. Windows down may look cool, allow for fresh air, but gets you worse MPG.

Hypermilers could be the stupidest and most dangerous people out there. I have seen some people doing crazy sh** on 70, 695, and 495 in MD and I'd like to lock up my brakes when one gets behind me and he can eat my freaking tow hitch. But I'm sensible and usually just pull over and let them pass, its not worth my life or my girlfriend who is usually with me not to mention my beautiful F150.

My old roomate at school bought a Prius and not a day went by that I didn't give him grief for driving a wedge..... he only averaged 41. His dad has one also, but also has a matching truck to mine (except the engine) and a 98 Suburban.... A hybrid might be worth it if you are replacing a car or just don't give a crap about what your car looks like.... my two cents.

Tucson's still hot, Scruge, although it's a relatively cool 95.5 outside right now as I write this (at 12:25 PM).

I was stationed at DM in the late 70s - small world, eh?

Me, I find the whole discussion of what's foreign and domestic a bit silly now. About the only thing I know of that is nearly 100% American is Boeing aircraft. Should we all run out and buy one of those? But, even they are starting to use imported parts too. Is everyone going to stop drinking Budweiser now that it's no longer "American"?

Hope so ! Maybe people will come to their sense and realize that water is crap and there are companies that make GOOD tasting, enjoyable beer !

I agree with the foreign/domestic debate and really don't care. But thats just me. Every company will out source when the price is right.

Well at least if you can find two you can use them to chalk the wheels on our F150's when we have to.

You say your navigator gets 320 miles to $110? I call a big time BS. You don't have a navigator. You say that to fit in. My supercrew does over 600 miles on $130 in gas. You hippies are bad out of principle. You come here to troll on a truck forum and think your going to change our minds.. that makes you stupid. go away troll. And don't insult me with the 2.5 ton crap. I am a full 3 ton truck "dude"

What wing were you assigned? I was there in 72 for 2.5 years, assigned to the 570th SMS.
I couldn't believe how much Tucson had changed when I visited in 93. Its probably as big now as Pheonix was in the 70s. I really had some good time out there. My *** starts to hurt when I think of all the cacti I've pulled out of it, riding dirt bikes in the desert.

Do the math at $4 a gallon. Nav tank is 28 gallon. I figured 27.5 usable gallons. 320/27.5 = 11.63 mpg. city.. I really only get 10 mpg as I'm not the typical pussie-footed white boy.
Actually I've never owned a Ford V-8 that got better than 10 mpg city with me driving. That includes 429 - 289s. I did once own a 74 Ford Courier 4 banger that got around 16mpg city after I added A/C to it.

Agreed, I have the 27 gallon tank in my 07 F-150 with the 5.4. I get around 300 miles to the tank. I dont fit the typical pussie footed white boy either :lol. I stomp the hell out of the pedal. Those who get more mileage drive really slow.
