What are you going to do with a timing light? The timing is 100% computer controlled and there's absolutely nothing you can do with it. There's no timing mark, and there's no place to connect the light!

Thank the good Lord above that I have an 2001, I just had to swap out my manifold and wanted to change out the plugs while i was in there. Much to my relief the nightmare starts in 04. I was already sourcing an extraction kit and watching the vids on how to pull the broken plugs. Thank God for this forum!

What YOU need to worry about on a 2001 is blowout - use Motorcraft plugs and torque them to 28 ft/lb with NO antiseize.

Oreilly was out of the Motorcraft spark plugs when I went in, so I replaced them with what was in there when I pulled the Intake manifold(bosh double platnums)Yeah No antiseize for sure, and about 28-30 ft lbs.sounds about right I didnt use my torque wrench just with my 3/8 drive and tighten them down and give em a 1/4 to 1/2 turn more

alien, I'd recommend you follow glc's advice here. Ford engines don't seem to like non-Motorcraft plugs much, and, I think you are risking a plug blowout if you haven't got them torqued properly.

Sigh...... I know but its SUUUUUCH a booger to get them out and swapped, esp. after I just finished the tear down. And I am a big big fan of the Motorcraft plugs too. When i get some time I will at least put the torque wrench them and check them. Bocsh single wire platnum are what I believe I put in there, they are supposed to be pretty darn close to oem specs but will double check

The Bosch plugs actually have a history of coming apart in Triton engines. I'd get them out of there immediately.

I have 73 k on my new used one owner 01' F-150 Lariat,5.4V8. Runs excellent.
I'm wondering about when I should do the"SWITCH" on the plugs, and all.
I do have a manual and the dvd from Ford, but in middle of moving and internet is iffy @ best when good...so going thru all the posts is frustrating.........
I am a preventative maintenance/go by the book guy usually on most things, and know regular service is prime. Have gotten many miles on vehicles doing so.
I'm thinking in spring @ about 75k and taking it to a reputable dealer to do it right in Alb.,NM nearest big town.
Thoughts? Ipines? Ideas?
This site is just plain great!

The mileage you plan is good, but if a mechanic does it, make sure they torque the plugs to 28ft lbs. your engine is prone to spitting out plugs at the factory torque specs.

The original service manual is in it ,but besides oil changes, I really have no idea of what has been done, besides the one oil change I have done, so I'm going to go with not much. Amazing this truck is from just 50 mi away too. Wish I knew who it was.

I used to do all my own work on trucks and cars....in the olden days of a file and match book tuning...lol. I can't tell what is what on this thing...
Thanks,I have some time to ask around about who to take it too.Maybe the local guy does know these well,he sure gets them done between the Chebbies & Rams that pile in...
