Which engine - 5.4 3 valve?

Those are relatively easy and are NOT subject to breakage. If the dealer wants to hose you like that, go find an independent shop. A plug change in that motor should be $300 TOPS and is well within the abilities of any independent shop that does spark plugs.

The revised heads use conventional 1 piece plugs without a ground sleeve. Trust me, ALL 4.6 and 5.4 3 valve engines in 09 and 10 use those.

There is no document. They are trying to rip you off. They would know your truck uses one piece plugs. Buy one and take it to them. Tell them to shoot straight with you. That plug change should be less than $300. If they won't do it free under a warranty from your purchase, I would get out of there and take it elsewhere.

If a Ford dealer is telling you this, Call the Ford Customer service line. You can look that number up, - might be in your users guide in the glove box.

Yea, they shouldn't have an authorized service center if they no THAT little about your truck.

They know better, it's next to impossible not to.

Def, trying to scam you, - no doubt...

That's enough BS to make you want to do it yourself, - or learn how to IMO.

Did my plug change on my 2006 F-150 HD with 65K miles. I followed the usual tips from here and it took me about 10 hours over 2 days and I broke 4 plugs. The lisle tool did its job. What a PITA!

talked to 2 dealers in the area and they are both quoting around the same price and saying the same thing about the spark plugs being a p.i.t.a. and having a tendency to break off in the head. am i surrounded by crooks?

They are all idiots if they don't know that you have the revised heads with conventional 1 piece plugs.

Ford needs to be forced to fix for all years and I mean a true fix, if it means replacing all heads.
NO BS fix allowwed. Plugs can leave you dead on a winding road, no place to pull off and then it is your life.
Plugs back out, you are dead. Misfiring dead engine, you are dead. Dirt, water getting into spark plug well, you are dead. Ford is no better than GM.

The first one you dealt with was the one you bought from and his name is Ford.

Unless they redesigned the boots on 4.6 since at least 2002, that is another piece of junk.
Water or even fine dust such as pollen gets down in the spark plug well. Ford should be forced to redesign and recall all this junk they created.

On a side note, waiting for 125K miles to replace these plugs is asking for trouble anyway.
Plugs were supposed to last 100K. Found On Road Dead would not only apply to vehicle but you because of dangers when that happens.
So it is a safety item and Ford should be forced to fix all existing vehicles and repay everyone who did it out of pocket. A minimum payment should be required for anyone that prove ownership during a likely needed plug and something such as title showing mileage should be enough.

(PS, I'm just tired of garbage being foisted upon the educated. And tired of govment agencies not doing their jobs.)

TSB is a piece of paper that is too stiff to use for you know what. TSB's were meant to be helpful, not an excuse for incompetence coming from engineers. The line needs to be redrawn or move toward buying anything without Detroit name.
