I don't understand why anyone would go to quick lube place. My local Ford dealer charges me $21.95 for an oil change, plus tax. My wife took her SUV into Vavoline last week and for a basic oil change they charged her $48.79 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll pay $21.95 for oil changes on my 04 Screw since I can't do it for much less than that when you factor in supplies plus the time it takes me to drain the oil, change the filter, fill it and then transfer the oil into a container I can take somewhere for recycling then find the time to get the oil to the recycler.

I'd consider doing it myself if I was more like my grandfather who use to dump the oil in the burn pile and then light a match.

In my local area, a Lincoln dealership charges $5 & a Ford dealership charges $48.95. All the other local dealerships charge somewhere in between with the most common price being $36.95. Why the price differences? Who knows? Probably the same reason why the same car goes for different prices at different dealerships.

Not all dealers have quick lube lanes - making an appointment and leaving the truck or sitting around the showroom can be inconvenient for a simple oil and lube service. If you can find a quick lube joint that is honest, uses quality oil and filters, and charges a fair price, why not?

I bought my truck used from a L-M dealer - they gave me a certificate for lifetime free oil changes every 3000 miles. Pay only for the filter and disposal fees (would be less than $10 total) but I never took advantage of it. Why? Because I would have had to make an appointment in advance and leave the truck all day. Not an option for me logistically, no loaner.

around here the dealers usually have a 2-3 week wait time to even get into have an oil change, ours is like 5-20 mins, so its convieniance and the dealer also makes money on doing services and buying and selling cars. lube shops make money by changing oil.

That is not an option for all of us. If you are calling me a worthless SOB because I don't, go hang it in your ear. If you were referring to Jiffy Lube as being worthless, I apologize for the misunderstanding.

I just went into a jiffy lube (more a combo with a hoffman car wash) for a state inspection after being failed at Firestone autocare and a Ford stealership a few weeks earlier. Needless to say I passed, they came out no more than 3-4 min after they pulled the truck in and gave me "the look" (you know, th eOhMan we found a big problem look), first he said I passed inspection and not to worry about that(wow, fastest inspection ever), BUT, my battery was borderline ready to die any second. He had a little interstate battery print out showing my 850CCA battery was only reading 12.6 volts and only 739CCA. It said on the print out it would only start my truck down to 26 degrees (it was 0 the morning I brought it in and -12 the following morn), he did everything he could to make me feel worried about it and pushed that new battery hard. I stayed about 15 min just hanging out drinking thier coffee (it was amazing good). I watch 2 younger women with kids in tow and an elderly man but new batteries in that time, I was shock and amazed.

Why did you post the link again? It's not going to work just because someone else posted it.

But yeah for the people that can't do all their own work, that's completely understandable and I'm not going to rag on you in any way. We're just bashing the horrible quick lube places, but not all of them are the same. There's plenty of reliable places to get your oil changed etc. but just don't go to Jiffy Lube

Not all Jiffy Lubes are scum. I have been to a couple that are honest.

Expy, you were being ragged on because that link was already posted in this very thread.

i actually had some guy get p.o. at me because his cars battery was underneath the seat, so i was just doing my job and pulled out his seat to test it and set it aside were it wouldnt get stepped on, kicked or w/e and he comes over and basically says wtf are you doing and i showed hime the battery and he apologized and agreed with me about the battery being located in the dumbest spot. lol
by the way, our oil changes are 9.98 for the first 5 quarts and any extra quart cost 2 something extra i think
