I use to manage a quick lube for 5 years, actually my father owns two of them in Illinois so it's more of a family business. Like stated above not all places are bad. We took pride in the work that we did. Never once did we try to sell something to someone that didn't need it. Never would we EVER think about charging money for a service that we didn't do. I got complimented all the time on the care that me and my employees showed to the cars and trucks that came in. Of course our stores are located in relatively smaller towns and we normally see the same people over and over.

That video of jiffy lube is not surprising I hired a kid that worked at a quick lube a few towns over and was shocked that he had no idea how to check front/rear diffs or transfer cases.

If you guys are keeping score, add wal-mart to the list of places to avoid; to many problems I have seen to list here.

I go to a family owned independent tire and service center... been going there for 6+ years and my dad has been going there longer. I have everything done there. I trust them with my life. For you religious folks, the son who was managing it just left to become a pastor, but his dad who owns it still will shoot you straight along with his employees including his son. I was sad to see his son leave, but they are still a great shop and I wish his son well.

Here's how the local Jiffy Lube re-installed the air filter on my wife's old "daily driver" '97 Pontiac Sunfire:

Is California the only state in the union with a Bureau of Automotive Repairs or equivalent government agency?

Let's just say that after I showed this to the manager, I've never gone back there!

Actually, I would have never gone back there anyways. The only vehicle I took there was the Sunfire, and it was simply because the car was so low to the ground that it was a PIA to get up on ramps or jack stands to do the oil changes myself.

The only reason I caught this was because I had just had the oil changed before I went to sell the vehicle, and was out in the garage throwing in a new air filter. As part of the normal oil change process, Jiffy lube always pulled the air filter out and tried to convince you that you should pay them $15.99 to install a $3.99 filter that you could do yourself in under 5 minutes.

I guess they didn't like the way I declined the air filter service......

I manage a lube center, not a quick lube as the average service is 20 mins. If any service is done the customer will be shown the old filter, fluid, whatever and for the most part they watch us do the services. My guys get bonus on sales but if any of them pull that change this tranny fluid or your tranny will fail crap i will fire them on the spot. We have around 9 cameras in a 3 bay shop which i wartch regularly and keep a very close eye on my store. Nothing happenes withought me knowing about it.

We do a 31 pt inspection and check the air filter and whatnot and yes we show you the old a a new one, but if you dont want it we put it back. ofcourse they cost more than doing it yourself, but wee have to make money somewhere right Just today i got a $20 tip and had one lady actually call me after she got home to tell me again how happy she was with the service after she went on for a few mins instore of how good it was.

Not all places are bad, but it is probly majority of them that are. I am 65% repeat buisness, which would be impossible if i was to pull that crap unless my customers were totally retARDED

Well that's helpful...

Can someone just type like a short 3 or 4 sentence summary on the video? The link doesn't work for a couple people.

What did you do about it?

That filter doesn't even look like it'll fit that air box housing...
