I dont trust any of those quick change places or most franchises. I had to get some brake work down on a trip once so I went to a Speedy and asked them to just change the front pads cuz I could hear the feeler strip making that screech until you put on the brakes. Found out my rear drums were wayyy under safe specs, I made him show me and my manual confirmed that so I said go ahead and do it, new drums and pads on the rears but they said the fronts were fine just needed caliper servcing. As the guy backed out for a test run after the work it was screeching louder than when I brought it in. When he got back I said why is it louder. Guy tried to tell me its the u-joints and they need to be replaced. I said "Oh really...then how come the noise stops when the brakes are on, the drive shaft is still moving so it should still screech....and the u-joints you say are shot are less than 6 months old. So either you are trying to rip me off or you are incompotent. Which is it?" Dumbass just walked away and got his manager who told me to pay my bill and leave. I paid and left. A week later I still had the screech on the front so I decided since I put on new drums I may as well put on new front rotors since all that hardware was original. Took it to my trusted mechanic and explained the whole speedy thing and he showed me why my brakes were louder now. SOB at Speedy bent the dust shield in so it rubbed on the rotor.

sorry for the rant

i worked at a jiffy lube last summer. i care about cars and am an honest person so i can say that i did all the work i sold and never tried to rip people off cause i wasnt there long enough to get a bonus for things sold. however i could count atleast 2 employees who didnt care at all and probably didnt do half the work they sold. interesting fact-most of the guys who watched me do what i was doing drove fords and mainly f-150's. got compliments for extra care and they understood when i showed them my truck in the parking lot,or my camaro.haha their not all bad but some just dont care and might screw you

I used to go to an Oil Express in Bartlett, IL. One of my customers' sons worked there and he was a good kid. He was a certified mechanic biding his time there till he could get hired someplace good. He took good care of my cars. He finally got a job at a BMW dealer and things at the Oil Express went downhill and I stopped going there.

Now, I go to the Mobil 1 Express Lube in Galena, KS. Good people there, competent, and they pay attention to detail. No kids working there, an old fart runs the joint, he told me he has been in the automotive service business for about 30 years in various capacities. It's worth the 20 minute drive out of town to get that kind of service. He doesn't normally stock 5W20 EP so he told me to stop off at Walmart on my way out and get some and bring it out - to save him the trip! It's cheaper at Walmart than it is from his distributor. I won't let the monkeys at Walmart touch my truck.

Not ALL quick lube joints are bad - but it can be tough finding out who is good and who isn't.

It all makes me wonder why at some of the Ford dealerships they have that Quick Lane in addition to the regular service bay. Is it all for the purposes of deferring liability?

At a busy dealership such as mine, a Quick lane is utilized, so as to not tie up as many mechanics from doing warranty work........

i worked at a jiffy lube for 3 months as a filler job... while i was there i went through 3 managers. the managers that were replaced were caught either stealing money or doing unauthorized repairs on company property. i was i out of 12 men hired at this place and out of the 12 men only 3 of us had never been in jail or were not in jail. every jiffy lube hires inmates from the local work release programs... some of the people that i worked with were caught with god awful amounts of drugs and selling them... some of them were repeat offenders of DUI's.... and one of them was in jail for instigated 1st degree murder..... that shows you right there the type of people that work at these places. while i was employed there, smoking pot (which i have never done) was done on a regular occasion. there was one instance where a hood "tech" (a guy in high school) blew a motor... he conveniently forgot to tighten the filter on the car.... air filters were left out of cars on a regular basis.... if the oil that a customer wanted was out, then they used a different oil then what the customer asked for.... for instance, if you asked for synthetic.. they used conventional.. if you asked for 5W and the cap on the oil filler clearly states that it needs 5W they would put 10W... i tried telling my manager once that doing that can cause problems in a truck now a days because they have high velocity oil pumps in them to get the oil to the top of the block on start up and he just told me they would never know the difference..... just do yourself a favor and always do your maintenance yourself.

Took my wife's car to JiffyLube 10 years ago and have'nt been back since. They topped off my washer fluid (right b4 winter season) with who knows what, but guessing it was colored water. A few weeks later was on a 500 mile trip in 20 deg. weather and the washer fluid was frozen solid. Had to stop every offramp to clean the road salty-slush off my windshield. Can't remember the last time I've been so pi$$ed-damn near had a stroke.

The link doesn't work for me.

And that's why I've never let anyone touch my truck. Second oil change is coming up in a couple hundred miles and I plan on doing it myself.

Crap, now I am afraid to take my truck anywhere.

The only story I have, is years ago, I had to have the oil plug drain re-tapped due to Jiffy kids not screwing the bolt in correctly. How hard is that? I guess when they are high, the simplest of tasks are difficult.

I hate to have to do this crap myself.

same here, except i work at a gm dealer. not all kids are idiots at this, iam 18 and i do all the work on the repair order (unless its a bigger job then we do are thing and take it to the guys in the back) watch my doors as i open them, wipe down my hands before backing out, ect. alot of older people with the caddies get a oil change at the jiffy lube down the street and come to the dealership the next day because they only put 5 quarts of quaker state in a northstar that requires for 7.5 quarts of mobil1 synthetic
