Jbrew, Anyone...

At this very moment, I have unlatched several things and unscrewed several items also, with the rest of the way looking manageable once I find my deep socket sets. Looking at those LAST two pictures of the link you provided on cleaning, is that hose facing the firewall a plug in? I can't seem to budge it as it's a tight fit in comparison to the picture, and also, will I require a new gasket for this throttle unit? Is this gasket available at any auto store like Kragen or Pep Boys, or is it something only a dealer carries?

Heeeeeeelp.

I see what your asking, yea I don't have one like that. Mine goes into te manifold itself, It's basically the same thing just lower. I use a big screw driver and push it off. You may need something small to get in there and lift the hose a little to apply WD40 to it. They can be a PITA, but a lubricant of some kind can make the difference. Looks like a long skinny screw driver could pry it up enough to give it a shot of lube.

Yes, that's where a thick compression gasket goes in the pic. That may be aluminum manifold only tho.

Hang on , I forgot what engine you have.

Yea you have an 01 - Plastic Manifold. So I'm not sure what you have there for a gasket. Yea, have the parts guy look it up - should be able to get that anywhere.

You also should replace the throttle body gasket, - If removed, - along with the EGR valve gasket. 3 all together. - 4 if you remove the IAC.

Their not that expensive.

I can't budge (Ack! The keys on my keyboard are turning black) that hose going into the rear of the throttle body, so it appears I will have to loosen the four bolts holding down the throttle body unit and simply wiggle while pulling forward toward the front of the vehicle.

I can see a gasket between the manifold (Plastic? Really?) and throttle body unit, but aren't these other units you are referring to requiring gaskets simply bolt on assemblies? What part is plastic again?

I'm heading to my nearby Kragen now.

On a down note, the last time I had this code addressed, I was charged over $300.00, with the sensor AND the EGR unit supposedly replaced. That EGR "flying saucer" is the original one. ****!!!

Yea, If you have a 5four, you have a plastic upper intake, If you have a 4 six - I'm not sure. You should know which one you have - It sits on the motor - It's that big thing between your valve covers lol.

Nevermind, Jbrew, I just realized that cleaning link had two pages, which answered some questions I had about gaskets.

By the way, not to hijack this thread, and seeing what you had to do for your daughter's truck recently who got stuck four-bying, ya got any good links on cleaning engines? I'm sure you've had plenty of experience.

I really haven't worked on engines in some time. I use to rebuild the carburators on my Cougar and Mustang, but that was so long ago. I threw my hands up when they went to all these chips and fancy electrical stuff. Hearing of a plastic manifold just throws me. Mine seems to be made of aluminum.

Thanks for all your help.

You can delete the EGR system yourself, we don't need them to run and it won't effect drivability. Theoretically this will effect economy, but this hasn't been proven to be a great down side or enough to matter all that much. The EGR effects economy most @ cruising speeds. So if you commute via expressway, you might see a difference.

You have to deal with the CEL blinding yuh, unless it is tuned out. I doubt any tuner will do this with a street legal vehicle. Maybe -strip only..

You would have to purchase tuning software yourself to tune out/delete a program, but you need a course or two in tuning before hand. So far, all I've seen offered is from VMP. I've seen their kits in the Ford Modular Build books at Auto Zone (believe it or not lol) - Check it out next time your there, their right above the Chilton and Hayne's books.

Thank you for posting this web site. This was a life saver and the pictures were an exact duplicate to what I found mine to look like. It took 1-1/2 cans of carb cleaner to get it clean, but it was a job well done. I completed the task in about 2-1/2 hours. If I had to do it again it would only take about 1/2 - 2/3 the time.

Thanks again to all of the experts for sharing their knowledge on this web site.
