Local/State roads and highways impose their own local speed restricts. Very rarely will these exceed 65mph.

Federal highways typically impose a standard speed limit of 65mph... with some sections being 70 or 75mph (northern california I5 for example).

If the speed limit was 65, and someone was going 55 in the slow lane... you would be hard pressed to find a cop to pull them over. 55 in the fast lane, or 50 in the slow lane.... yes... then you are pushing it.

However, if the speed limit is 65, and you are doing 90, just like 'everyone else', at least one of your dumbasses are gonna get pulled over.


Are you referring to the caved in roof which was the result of a 'burned out brake controller' that you knew nothing about (and propably never tested)?

Do you *really* understand what center of gravity is? Putting different shocks and tires on your bronco isn't going to change the fact that as a vehicle gets taller (ie more weight further away from the ground), the center of gravity moves upward. When you corner, there is a desire for the center of gravity to move laterally... which results in the vehicle swaying to one side. The higher the CG, the less force is required to actually move the top end of the vehicle... this is simple lever math.

Depending on the amount of lateral force, it is more likely for a top-heavy vehicle to roll over.

Shocks and sway bars can lessen the effect of lateral forces by keeping the vehicle body parallel to the ground.... but at 80+ mph... no sway bar on earth is gonna keep your bronco from rolling if you have to make a sharp turn.

You can delude yourself into thinking otherwise.... until it is too late.

I don't need to.... there is a reason why sports cars ride low.... and it isn't because they look cooler.

No, I am reacting to the fact that several people on this thread pointed out that your actions were potentionally unsafe to both yourself and others.

You reacted by:

1 - citing traffic law, which you obviously know little about, or have a very misguided interpretation of.
2 - citing 'improvements' you made to your vehicle that you believe will negate the effects of unsafe driving practices and basic physics.
3 - insulting those of us who choose to obey the basic speed restrictions when we drive.

Do I drive fast? yes, usually around 80 or so on the freeways. Have I burried me speedo before? yes. can you honesly say that you have never burried your pedal or driven fast?

Think about it. If im going into a turn, and I start to accelerate a little versus hitting my brakes, I have more control versus the other guy. There is a difference between driving offensivly and driving like a moron.

 

I imagine my brake lights coming on would be scarier, I might be laying on the pedal, but then it may be the brake controller test button. How you handle it is up to you and not really my problem.

Driving in traffic with ordinary civilians is niether a game nor a battle. I think we can both agree that it doesn't matter how good of a driver you think you are, or I think I am, what matters is that you nor I have control over how well someone else can drive. That being said, I NEVER obstruct traffic. As a musician and engineer I understand the rythym of the herd. I understand when it is necessary to tap the breaks in lieu of an impending bottle neck. I understand that my actions trickle to the back of the line of cars behind me. I understand that agressive and offensive driving can actually discern the "idiots" that don't get "go with the flow". However despite their lack of knowledge or blatant stupidity I will not choose a course of action that endangers my fellow man. If I am doing 72 in the left lane and the limit is 65, you CAN go around me as I have no inclination of moving. If you intend to ride my *** (like a *** does) enjoy the view becuase it wont change.
And I feel fully qualified in my remark as to putting a bullet in someone who takes and innocent life because they are on the "offensive". There can be no excuse or allowance for such selfish actions. You mentioned that you find the back road or off road so this suggests your understanding of the proper time and place.
Furthermore I do not WANT to believe that you make it a point of driving like a jack *** and "commanding" the road, however some of your remarks lead me to believe otherwise.
As my intial post was not directed at you but rather those who have posted obnoxious stories here, don't take it too personal.
You do have to admit that there is a certain amount of self disciplin, skill, and maturity required to master the fine art of driving.
Just make sure it's practiced appropriately.

Here is the truth for you... at 20 years old, I was just like you. I thought that I had all the right answers, could handle any situation thrown at me, and was 'always in control' of my vehicle.

What I didn't realize is that bad things happen when you least expect it. It is easy to sit in the local dairy queen parking lot and burn donuts and claim that you are 'in control' when the back-end breaks loose.

It is a lot different when you are 'cruising' at 90mph down the highway and a torque wrench hits your front tire, or one of your lower ball joint breaks loose, or some idiot in a honda civic slams on the breaks in front of you because a duck wandered onto the highway....

So, you keep telling yourself how 'cool' you are because you are 'in control'.

In the meantime, do me a favor... everytime you tailgate a minivan obeying the speed limit with 3 kids in it... ask yourself if your 'manhood' is in jeopardy if you don't flash your headlights..
